The New Lebanon Library will hold its annual used book and bake sale on Saturday, October 5, from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, October 6, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Midtown Mall, Routes 20 and 22 in the center of New Lebanon. Admission on Saturday and Sunday is free. There will be a special preview sale on Friday, October 4, from 2 pm to 6 pm. Admission to the preview costs $5.
Available for sale will be a large assortment of hard and soft cover books, including children’s books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs. Most items will be priced from .25 to $5. Proceeds benefit the Library.

Basket Weaving Workshop In Grafton
The Grafton Community Library presents an Intermediate Basket Weaving – Tote Basket Workshop as part of the Grafton Community Arts Program that has been awarded grant funding from The Arts Center of the Capital Region.
The student will learn intermediate basket making techniques to create this attractive basket. Basic weaving skills are required. Linda Dayton is the instructor for this class.
The Tote Basket is a sturdy basket useful for carrying books, craft projects, beach gear or even picnic items. Measuring 13” by 5 ½” and 11 ½ inches deep, it is large enough to be used as a magazine holder. Shaker Tape is attached for the handles and dyed reeds add a bit of color to the basket.
The class will be held on both Saturday, October 19, and Saturday, October 26, from 9 am to 12:30 pm at the Everett Wagar Senior Center in Grafton. Participants must be able to attend both sessions. Class size is limited to 10 participants (adults only). Preregistration is required, along with a $10 materials fee. Sign up at the Library at 2455 NY Route 2. BFD Auxiliary Mum Sale
The Berlin Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is holding a Mum Sale fundraiser just in time to decorate your home for the Fall season. These hardy potted flowers provide wonderful fall color and work great at filling in empty spots where summer bloomers have faded. Mums will be on sale during the Fire Department breakfast on Sunday, October 6, at the Berlin Firehouse from 7 to 11 am.
Grafton VFD And Ladies Auxiliary Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, October 26, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85).
Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu. The cost is $9 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids five and under.

Berlin Fire Department Breakfast
On Sunday, October 6, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its fresh, hot off the griddle monthly breakfast. For your eating pleasure we include all you can eat pancakes, French toast and biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard). Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.
Prices are $7 for adults, $4 for kids 5-10 and kids under 5 eat for free. Please join us before church, grocery run or what you are doing for the day and have a great start to the morning.
Ency Burhans Named To Binghamton University Dean’s List
Ency Reeves Burhans of Grafton received academic honors from the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Science at Binghamton University by making the University’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2013 semester.
Binghamton University is one of the four university centers of the State University of New York. Known for the excellence of its students, faculty, staff and programs, Binghamton enrolls close to 15,000 students in programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees
Stephentown Veterans Texas Hold’em
The Veterans of Stephentown will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, October 12, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted and give the player 6,000 in chip value. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 2,000 extra in chip value. This tournament will pay one place for every 10 players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of 9 places.
A free buffet will be served at the first break and refreshments will be available.
Fill the Bus Food Drive October 7 -13

The third annual Fill the Bus Food Drive, benefiting the Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA) Food Pantry will take place in Hoosick Falls from October 7 to the 13th. The students of Hoosick Falls Central School and St. Mary’s Academy are encouraged to bring food throughout the week. On Friday, October 11, at the HFCS Homecoming football game the bus will be open for the public to fill up. A raffle will be held this year at the football game for a 32” flat screen T.V.
On Sunday, October 13, from 9 am to 12 pm a truck will be parked on Main Street near the Baptist Church to collect food. Meanwhile the school bus will be at the Cow Plop Giveaway & Car Show being held at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields from 9 am to 3 pm.
The HACA Food Pantry serves the greater Hoosick Falls community by supplying food and toiletries to over 1,697 households per year. In 2012 42,273 meals were given to those in need, and that number keeps growing. This year the Food Pantry has served over 23,000 meals thus far and the holidays are quickly approaching. Please come celebrate Homecoming and support those in need at the same time by helping to Fill the Bus.

12, Saturday- Treasure Hunt in the Wild Woods at 10:30 am. Team Deer and Team Coyote will each explore the Wild Woods and Shaver Pond Trail, looking for clues and signs of animals. Local 4-H Participation In The Schaghticoke Fair

Labor Day to many in the area is synonymous with the Great Schaghticoke Fair. This couldn’t be truer for roughly 300 Rensselaer County 4-H members who participate at the Fair. 4-H is much more than cows and cookies, even though we see plenty of those at the fair. 4-H is all about growing kids!
