On Monday, April 8, at its regular monthly meeting, and before a capacity crowd of HFCS students, Village and Town residents, the Hoosick Town Board agreed to pay $9,000 in rent due to HAYC3 since November 2012. The rate is $1,500 a month and covers November through April. The Board also agreed to give HAYC3 $10,000 this year to be used toward setting up the food co-op that had been planned.

Grafton Town Board Action – Order Returns

The Grafton Town Board met April 9 for the first time with a full Board and Supervisor since the passing of Ray Darling. The new Supervisor, Frank Higgins, said Joe Allain had agreed to stay on as his secretary, and Higgins appointed Allain to the position for the remainder of this year.

New Faces On The Hoosick Falls Board

Three Board members and the Mayor were sworn in at the beginning of the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, April 9. Village Trustee Ric DiDonato was re-elected in March for a fourth term. He was appointed Deputy Mayor. Kevin O’Malley was recently elected Trustee. Ben Patten was appointed Trustee to fill the one year remaining of Mayor Dave Borge’s term. Borge was elected Mayor in March. The Mayor said newly elected Trustee Bob Ryan had day surgery on Friday and was not well enough yet to attend Tuesday’s meeting, but he is going to be fine. The other Trustees are Robert Downing and Jeremy Driscoll.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Plushness Is All

New Lebanon has just become a bit more comfortable. The new Town Hall was completed a few months back, but residents at Tuesday’s monthly Town Board meeting noticed that two and a half hours of listening to their elected officials officiate had suddenly become a bit less arduous. The old hard folding chairs were gone, and new soft ones were neatly lined up replacing them.
“Was everyone comfortable tonight?” asked Councilman Bruce Baldwin.
Indeed, many of the few residents who attended the meeting were rather impressed with the new cushy comfort of New Lebanon.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Endings And Beginnings

Perhaps the best part of the Rensselaer County Legislature’s monthly meeting is the presentation period before the regular business starts. The presentations to the families of deceased pillars of the community, those who have made the history of the County, are quite emotional and moving, such as the presentation on Tuesday to the husband of Cathy Wickswat, a farming agent for the Cornell Cooperative Extension, which honored her for her service to the farming community in the Capital District. At the other end of life’s road are the presentations to the County’s youth who are beginning to leave their mark on the community. On Tuesday the presentations to the Hoosick Falls Central School bowling and wrestling teams heralded the future of these dedicated, hard working, talented, young people.

Fundraiser For The Memorial Honor Roll Monument Fund
The Board of the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center is doing a fundraiser for the Memorial Honor Roll Monument Fund. There will be a full lasagna dinner on Saturday, April 27, from 4 to 7 pm.

Parent Night For Incoming HFCS Kindergarteners
On Thursday, April 18, Hoosick Falls Central School will be sponsoring its annual Parent Night for Incoming Kindergarteners from 6 to 7:15 pm. The introduction will begin promptly at 6 in the Elementary School Cafeteria.

Panther Baseball Starts Season With Two Wins

The sugar houses are shutting down and the peepers are out so it must be baseball season for the Panthers. Coach Mike Lilac Jr. and the Pride loaded the bus to travel to Castleton to face Maple Hill for the Panthers’ Season Opener, in a non-league game. The Panthers clawed their way to the Section II Finals last season and are looking to go further this season.
