The Mountain Road School is sponsoring the Second Annual Shaking Off the Winter Blues Concert, a musical celebration for the entire family, on Sunday, April 7, from 1 to 5 pm. This year the concert will be held at the Richmond Congregational Church, one mile east of the NY border off Route 295 in Richmond, MA. Eight musical performances and four hours of live music will offer something for every musical taste from child to adult.
The afternoon kicks off with Sandy & Sandy playing a high energy, foot stomping blend of blues and country. Other featured performers include Paul de Jong, cellist, composer and co-founder of the internationally acclaimed band “The Books,” local favorites Linda Worster and JoAnne Spies, Divinitress, Dar Nico & Chris, with an eclectic mix of musical styles, and The Mountain Road Children’s Ensemble. The school’s house dance band, The Mountain Rodents, with Mark Kelso, Richard Green, Jon Stevens and Chris St. Clair, will close the concert with a dance jam.
Admission is $15 per person or $25 per family. A silent auction with local goods and services and delicious home made foods are part of the afternoon event.
The Mountain Road School was founded in 1975 as an independent school and serves children pre-school through grade 8. The school is known for its small, multi-aged classrooms and long standing commitment to nature-based education. Enrollment for the 2013-14 is underway with openings at all grade levels. Rensselaer County’s Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road, Grafton will be holding an AARP Safe Driving Course, on Tuesday, April 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a break at noon for lunch, available at the Center.

The Johnsonville Rescue Squad Breakfast
The Johnsonville Rescue Squad located at 4 River Road in Johnsonville is holding its monthly breakfast on Sunday, April 7, from 7:30 to 11 am.The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Eggs, French toast, pancakes, sausage, omelets, hash browns, juice, fruit and coffee are on the men.

Berlin Fire Department Breakfast
On Sunday, April 7, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its fresh, hot off the griddle, monthly breakfast. For your eating pleasure we include all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast and biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard). Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.
Prices are $7 for adults, $4 for kids 5-10 and free for kids under 5. Please join us before church, grocery run or whatever you may be doing for the day and have a great start to the morning.

Ryan Sams Re-enlists In New York Army National Guard
Major General Patrick A. Murphy, the Adjutant General, announced the recent re-enlistment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.
Specialist Ryan Sams from Berlin has re-enlisted to continue service with the Headquarters and Support Company, 42nd Infantry Division.
Murphy said, “Keeping those ready forces in our ranks mean that New York is ready to provide forces for state missions here at home, as we saw during Hurricane Sandy, or for the federal missions supporting our nation around the country and around the world.”
