Stephentown Town Board Action – In Good Financial Shape
by David Flint
The Town of Stephentown ended the year 2012 in pretty good shape financially. Some of that was due to the weather. As Highway Superintendent Aldie Goodermote pointed out at the Town Board meeting Monday, “We had no winter.” That meant there was almost no overtime for the road crew. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt noted that there was $87,000 in the budget for payroll for snow removal but only about $53,000 was spent. Also payments from FEMA turned out to be a good bit higher than expected. And in the General Fund, Eckhardt said, receipts from the sales tax and the mortgage tax were considerably more than what was budgeted. For sales tax $250,000 was budgeted but $304,000 was received. For the mortgage tax $57,000 was budgeted and close to $92,000 was taken in. [Read more…] about Stephentown Town Board Action – In Good Financial Shape

Girls Soccer
On Saturday, January 19, the Hoosick Falls Central School’s 2012 Girls Soccer team gathered to celebrate one last time. The Immaculate Conception Church hall was decorated with poster size photos of each of the team’s seniors. There were championship banners on display and plenty of blue and white. Each senior had framed photos of the season next to her place at the head table. The sign that carried them through the season was prominently displayed. It said, “Dream it Believe it Achieve it!” And, of course, they did!

Grafton To Buy New Sander
by Alex Brooks
The Grafton Town Board held a special meeting on Wednesday, January 23, at 6 pm. They approved the purchase of a new sander for one of the Town’s big tandem-axle plow trucks at a cost not to exceed $9,250. The motion passed unanimously.
The Town will now have brand new sanders on both of its big plow trucks. The other one was replaced with insurance money after a mishap wrecked the sander.
The sanders on the smaller trucks are quite old, but Supervisor Ray Darling said that as far as he knows, they are all operational. Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck was not able to attend the meeting.
The Board then made a motion to pay all bills as audited, and adjourned the meeting, as there was nothing else on the agenda.
