Mike LaPorte, assisted by Chris Marsh and a big crew of volunteers, had a busy weekend on July 28 and 29. They hosted the third Annual Hoosick Youth Wrestling Tournament. Twelve teams of 16 youngsters each, ages 14 and under competed. The teams participated in eight matches over the two days. Pink Fashion Rocks

Like all the nearby communities, Hoosick and Hoosick Falls residents and businesses are extremely generous. Almost every week or every other week there is one fund raiser or another. And people respond! Most fund raisers are annual events run by the same folks year after year. Pink Fashion Rocks had a different twist. It was run completely by young folks in their late teens and early twenties. They are to be congratulated. They should be congratulated first for continuing the strong community ethic of giving back and secondly for pulling off a successful event.

New Lebanon High School Reunion

Robert Burns, New Lebanon High School Class of 1949, had a goal some years ago – to increase the turnout for the annual Alumni Reunion Dinner to at least 200. So he began picking up the tab each year for the entire Dinner. On Saturday, July 28, with Burns playing host at the Stephentown Fire Hall for the seventh year in a row, the attendance was over 220 including about 152 graduates representing the Class of 1935 through the Class of 2007.

Bakaitis Family Recognized For Commitment To Youth

Early Tuesday evening, June 19, Hoosick Falls Mayor Matt Monahan, Deputy Mayor Paul Haynes and Trustees Ric DiDonato and David Borge met at the 4th Ward playground to recognize, with plaques, the volunteers who made the community playground possible. Mayor Monahan said he wanted to thank everyone who had any part in making the playground what it is today, from the volunteers who first approached the Village and began the fundraising, to all those who help maintain and improve it. The Mayor said the plaques are the result of a letter he received in March recommending the Village dedicate the playground to Jack and Peg Bakaitis.

The Second Annual Hoosick Hometown Days Is Friday
It’s time for the Second Annual Hoosick Hometown Days. Stop down for a fun filled family weekend at the Hoosick Falls Athletic Fields. From noon until 10 pm on August 3 and 4, this community event will feature something for everyone.
The grounds will be filled with vendors, concessions by local non-profit organizations, local musical talent and a dunking booth. Amyland Amusements will be setting up some of their best rides and carnival games for the weekend. Wrist bands for rides will be available for $25. St. Mary’s Academy will be providing all of your favorite carnival foods throughout the weekend.

Columbia County Schoolgirl Queen To Be Crowned August 31 At The Columbia County Fair
Representatives of Columbia County’s six public high schools will compete for the title of 2012 Schoolgirl Queen on Friday, August 31, in one of the Columbia County Fair’s most popular and enduring traditions.
At 6:30 pm the gowned contestants will arrive at the stage in front of the grandstand in vintage convertibles and be introduced by emcees Meg Dooley and Cathie Lee Visscher.
Judging is based on personality, poise and appearance. The winner will be crowned by last year’s Queen, Sarah Elise Risko from New Lebanon High School, and receive a $500 prize.
