Petersburgh Library Story Time

The Petersburgh Public Library will be presenting three spring storyhours for pre-schoolers. Pre-schoolers and their care-givers are invited to join us for stories, songs, crafts and snacks at 10 am on Monday mornings on March 19, 26 and April 2. On March 19, “Colors of the Rainbow” will be the theme. On March 26, “Commotion in the Ocean” will feature stories from the ocean, and April 2 will bring us “Rain, Rain Go Away.”  Plan to join us with your pre-schooler for books that they will love.

SMA Basketball Tournament

St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls will be holding a basketball tournament this weekend for fifth and sixth and seventh and eighth grade teams, both boys and girls. The teams consist of Hoosick Falls, Bennington, Cambridge and Hoosic Valley players. The games will be held Friday, March 16, from 4 to 7 pm, Saturday from 8 am to 7 pm and Sunday, March 18, from 10 am to 6 pm.

New Lebanon Foundation Trivia Night

The New Lebanon Foundation will launch its 2012 fund-raising campaign with a Trivia Night to be held on March 30 from 7 to 9 pm at the New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School on Route 22. Test your trivia knowledge in a number of diverse categories while enjoying time with your team of up to six family members and friends, or join a team on the spot. Door prizes, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle will add to the evening’s entertainment.
For additional information please call Barbara Ruhe at 518-794-9490. The cost is $10 per person. All proceeds benefit the New Lebanon Arts and Humanities Fund, a fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

Al-Anon’s 27th Annual Cabin Fever Workshop

Al-Anon’s 27th Annual Cabin Fever Workshop will be held on March 17 from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Second Congregational Church, Hillside Street, in Bennington.
Welcome and breakfast begins at 9 am. There will be a speaker from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

George Rickey Sculpture Exhibit To End

The 2011 Sculpture in the Streets exhibition featuring the late American kinetic sculptor George Rickey is nearing the end of its stay in downtown Albany. On March 26, the sculptures, some as large as 14 feet high and 22 feet wide, will be taken down and returned to The George Rickey Foundation in East Chatham. GLSP Offers Backyard Maple Sugaring Programs – Update

To welcome spring, Grafton Lakes State Park is providing one hour backyard maple sugaring demonstrations on Saturday, March 17. The program will be offered throughout the day, at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 2 pm.  Please note that the second date for the maple program, previously announced for March 24, has been cancelled due to an anticipated early end to the sugaring season.

Petersburgh – Dorothy M. Weaver Alderman, 77, of Taconic Trail in Petersburgh, NY, died on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT.
Born in Petersburgh on March 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Florence Moon Weaver. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert A. Alderman, who died on November 18, 1999. They were married in Berlin, NY, on January 6, 1951.

Hoosick Falls – Miss Florence “Flo” Evelyn Bell, 92, of Hoosick Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, died peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at her residence.

Johnsonville – Thomas J. Barton, Jr., 85, of Johnsonville, NY, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his life-long home. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Salisbury) Barton for nearly 55 years. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary (Dorr) Barton, his son, Thomas Barton, his sisters, Geraldine Barton and Alice Tate, his brother, Gerald Barton, and his son-in-law, Michael Buvarsky.
