Hoosick Falls – Joan (Hewson) Rogers, 82, passed peacefully on January 22, 2012, at her residence on High Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Joan was the wife of Raymond Rogers, who died in 2009.
Born in Troy, NY, on December 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James and Dora (Gooden) Hewson. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and a 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. [Read more…] about Joan Rogers

Hoosick Falls – Jerry D. DeLuca, 87, formerly of High Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, died peacefully at the Eddy Village Green Nursing Facility in Slingerlands, NY, on Saturday evening, January 21, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 8, 1924, in Hoosick Falls, he was the son of the late Santo and Laura D’Amico DeLuca. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Marjorie Cranston DeLuca, on February 23, 2010. They were married on December 17, 1977.

Hoosick – Charles W. Cornell, 97, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had formerly resided on Pine Hill Road in Buskirk, NY, for 93 years and was the husband of the late Lois (Baker) Cornell who died in 1999.
Born on May 30, 1914, in Buskirk, Charles was the son of the late Walter G. and Minnie (Fisk) Cornell. He was educated at the Groveside School House. Hoosick Falls – Robin C. Kessler, 30, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. She had resided on Munsell Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with her husband Courtney Kessler and their children.
Born on April 30, 1981, in Bennington, VT, Robin was the daughter of Jeffrey and Crystal (Metcalfe) Pierce of Pownal, VT. I called to Wm Clark’s store and bought goods for my wedding to the amount of $3.68.
April 15, Thursday: On this day at seven in the afternoon I was married to Miss Lucinda Wylie by the Rev. Mr. Churchill of New Lebanon.  We were married at the house of Mrs. Widow Deborah Springs and Mr. John Wylies in this town, priest tax two dollars.

Berlin Municipal Center Is Reborn With Purchase Of Berlin Lumber

At its first regular meeting of the new year the Berlin Town Board voted unanimously to purchase the former Berlin Lumber facility for use as a municipal center that will include a Town Hall and Town Highway Garage. Almost 40 people attended the meeting, and it seemed that they might have been there just to get a view of the new Town Board in action with its three new Board members, Tara Cinney, Dean Maxon and John Winn. Former BCS Board Member Urges Petersburgh Secession From School District

At this month’s Petersburgh Town Board meeting the Town Board heard a presentation from Kurt Klein asking the Petersburgh Town Board to consider seceding from the Berlin Central School District and affiliating with another District.

Massive Leak At Former WCW

Hoosick Falls Water Department Supervisor Jim Hurlburt was concerned late Monday afternoon, January 16, when water in the Rensselaer Street tank began dropping rapidly. “It was about 5:30, and water usage usually increases about that time,” he said. “But this was far too much water. It was about 800 gallons a minute.” Hurlburt dreaded having to drive around the Village looking for the leak. “I was relieved when I got the call from the County,” he said.
