During the people to be heard portion of the Hoosick Town Board meeting Monday evening, January 9, Kevin Allard, a member of the Save the Armory Committee, suggested the Board reduce its options from four sites to two regarding a future Town Hall. He recommended that the Patire and Weeb’s Fish Fry properties be dropped from the list and the Board focus on either renovating the Armory or building a new Town Hall. New Lebanon Town Board Deletes Expletives

The Town Board of New Lebanon didn’t conclude the year 2011 on the best of notes. The end of year meeting on December 27 fell apart like a family holiday party where the family members had already seen far too much of each other over the holidays. Council Member Bruce Baldwin even started swearing out loud when a discussion on Ethics Board appointments turned to a resident’s blog comments. “We’re not here to read [expletive] blogs,” he said.

Harry Weir Foundation Gives $8,000 To Hoosick Area

On Saturday, January 7, Norma Brenenstuhl, on behalf of Key Private Bank trust administrator Michele Nichols, presented checks from the Harry Weir Foundation to the following individuals for their organizations. The amount distributed this year was $8,000. That is five thousand dollars less than was available from the fund the previous year. The presentations were made at the Cheney Library.

HFCS Considers Accepting Non-Resident Students

At their December meeting the Hoosick Falls School Board discussed the possibility of accepting non-resident students on a tuition basis. Superintendent Ken Facin said he has been contacted by families from outside the District who are interested in sending their children to the Hoosick Falls Schools. He suggested to the Board that this could be an opportunity for the District to raise its revenue without appreciably raising its costs if they accept students only where they have available space. Business Manager Pam Hatfield said the tuition they would pay is determined by a State formula.

Skating Lesson Registration For Local Skaters
The Hoosick Friends of Skating Club will hold skating lesson registration on Saturday, January 14, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Reynolds-Gilchrest Skating Rink on Barton Avenue in Hoosick Falls.

Grafton And Petersburgh Youth Football Careers End

In mid November, Noah Grandjean of Grafton and Joshua Kluck of Petersburgh celebrated their last year of football. Both boys played a total of seven years for the Brunswick Bulldogs in the Northeast Youth Football League. They each started playing in the Bulldog Flag Division at age four for three years. Then they played two years in the Junior Tackle Division, and, finally, finished their two years of Senior Tackle Division this past year.

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade Committee will host three events on Saturday, January 14. An Irish Stew Cook-Off will be held from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Bring it on! Let’s see who makes the best Irish stew in the area. There is a $25 entry fee. Prizes will be awarded. The Best Irish Stew King or Queen will be honored in the Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade.
