Rensselaer County Historical Society

The Rensselaer County Historical Society is a non-profit, private educational organization in Troy, established in 1927 to connect local history and heritage with contemporary life.

The museum comprises two adjacent 19th century townhouses; the historic and architecturally significant Hart-Cluett House, which serves as a house museum, and the Carr Building, which houses programmatic and research functions. RCHS offers visitors and members a wide range of tours, exhibitions, educational programs, an extensive local history research library, and a museum shop. Handicapped accessible.

The Hart-Cluett House is an 1827 marble-faced structure, one of the finest intact houses of the late Federal period in America. The house represents the best in design and craftsmanship of the period. The Hart-Cluett House is open by appointment and during special programs held throughout the year. Open February through December 23. Closed Sunday, Monday, major holidays, and the month of January. Closed Saturdays May 27 and July 1 and September 2 to honor Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. First Saturday of the month free. Hours of operation   Tuesday – Saturday, noon – 5 pm, February – December 23. Admission: Adults: $5, Seniors: $4, Youth (12-18yrs.): $3, Children under 12 free.
