2023 County Budget Proposed

October 27, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Fifth Straight Year with Property Tax Reduction

From the Office of County Executive Steve McLaughlin
The proposed 2023 Rensselaer County budget would include a 1 percent property tax reduction, making it the fifth consecutive year with such a reduction. When combined with the previous four years, property taxes will have been reduced by 20 percent under County Executive Steve McLaughlin.

“Under the 2023 budget, the County tax levy will decrease by 1 percent. While modest, when coupled with the previous tax reductions from the past four years, it will mean our taxes have decreased by one-fifth in just five years. A 20 percent reduction in taxes is, we believe, is not equaled by any County in the State, and shows Rensselaer County is a leader in protecting taxpayers and encouraging other development,” added McLaughlin. Sycaway Traffic Concerns Dominate Brunswick Meeting

October 19, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque
Ever since the Aldi complex and Hannaford projects were introduced along Hoosick Road (NYS Route 7) residents of the Sycaway neighborhood have been attending Board meetings complaining about what has been labeled as cut through traffic along Oswego and Oneida Avenues, as well as Greene and Genesse Streets, to get to the recently opened Hannaford store or the new traffic light at the end of Lord Avenue. They speak of the volume of vehicles using these narrow roadways, the excess speed, callous and dangerous behavior, as well as litter. Several of the residents say they are now in fear for their families and pets when [Read more…] about Sycaway Traffic Concerns Dominate Brunswick Meeting

Catalog Card Quilt

October 12, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Written and Submitted by Alice Walsh
In July, 2022, my husband David and I took a road trip in our small motorhome to Lincoln, Nebraska, to deliver my handmade quilt, Sampler of Library Catalog Cards 1851-2006, to the International Quilt Museum, where it was added to the museum’s permanent collection. I had submitted the quilt as a potential donation through the museum’s website and I was thrilled when the museum responded that they wanted to accept it. David and I decided to personally deliver it to Nebraska because it is very large, and cannot be folded. In the end, we were very glad we did, because we then had the opportunity to tour the museum and meet some of the wonderful people who work there. [Read more…] about Catalog Card Quilt

No More Sidewalk to Nowhere

October 11, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Brunswick Planning Board

By Doug La Rocque
During a recent public hearing on Paulsen Development’s desire to construct a two-story medical building on McChesney Avenue, the issue of a sidewalk in front of the building was discussed. The owner stated he was not opposed to it, except that there are currently no other sidewalks, concrete or otherwise, between the rear Walmart entrance and Hoosick Road (NYS Route 7). He did state he saw no need for a sidewalk if there was nothing to connect it to. At the Planning Board’s Thursday, October 6 meeting, the issue was resolved. The owner agreed to put the money for a sidewalk in escrow, to be built if any connecting sidewalks are ever constructed. [Read more…] about No More Sidewalk to Nowhere
