Raymond N. Harrington

Hoosick Falls – Raymond N. Harrington 80, passed away on Thursday June 11, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, in Bennington.

Raymond was born on September 29, 1934 in Cambridge, New York, son of the late Raymond and Anna (Springer) Harrington. He was educated in a one room school house in Southwest Hoosick. He joined the United States Navy in 1953, serving his country until 1955.When Raymond was discharged he returned to Hoosick Falls and his current address on Spicer Road. He enjoyed feeding the birds and taking care of his lawn. He enjoyed working on lawnmowers in his garage. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend a neighbor or anyone who needed it.

Survivors include his sisters Ramona Gerrity and Helen Rock as well as many other relatives and friends.

The services are being handled by the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY. At the request of Raymond the services will be private with a burial at the Gerald B.H.Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be the Veterans of Foreign War through the funeral home.

Joan King Darcy

New Lebanon – Joan King Darcy of New Lebanon, passed away on June 7, 2015 after a short battle with lung cancer. Joan was 78 years old.

Joan is survived by her brother, Robert E. King, and his four children, David R. King of San Marino, CA, Stephen M. King of Dallas, TX, Kathryn K. Vieillard of Cheshire, CT and Suzanne K. Cirame of Medford, MA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Kevin and Brenda Darcy, Teri Darcy, Mike and Tammy Darcy, Joe and Carol Darcy, Jessica and Darren Kidney, Pete and Bobbie-Jo Darcy, Martha and Joe Esposito, Anne-Marie and Christian Hirsch and Mike Sabol. She also had many great-nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Leicester High School in Leicester, MA in 1954 and received her BA from Colby College, class of 1958 where she was a female athlete lettering in several sports including volleyball. Joan was a lifelong educator and teacher. Her teaching career spanned three decades and three different school districts: Ludlow, VT, Rensselaer, NY and Pittsfield, MA.Ob-Darcyweb

Upon her retirement from teaching, Joan continued to be very active in her community, where she belonged to and participated in the Fire Department, and the New Lebanon Seniors. She was also an active member of the Senior Ministry at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.

Joan had been a faithful parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon and the family wishes to extend their appreciation to their fellow parishioners for their support and prayers.

The wake will be held at the Hall &Higgins Funeral Home located at 457 NY 43, Stephentown, NY 12138 on Thursday, June 18, from 5:30 until 7:30 pm.  Her Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 19 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church located at 732 State Route 20 in New Lebanon. The interment will follow the funeral service at the Cemetery of the Evergreens.

Ruth LaPerle

Hoosick Falls – Ruth LaPerle, 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday June 13, 2015. She resided on First Street in Hoosick Falls with her husband of fifty-three years Leo LaPerle.

Born on June 4, 1942 in Troy, NY to the late Robert and Betty (Lohnes) Leibensperger. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls, where she attended Hoosick Falls Central School. On April 14, 1962 Ruth married her husband and best friend Leo. Ruth and Leo shared fifty-three amazing years together. Throughout her adult life, Ruth worked several jobs throughout the Hoosick Falls, Cambridge, NY and Bennington, VT area. She is best known for her gregarious personality and sense of humor. When not working, Ruth focused her time on being a homemaker, collecting Marilyn Monroe items, and tending to her favorite pets, Jewels, their Quaker Parrot and Gidget, their toy poodle.

Survivors in addition to her husband Leo include her sister Gwynne Leibensperger of Schodack, NY, her daughter Sandy (Gary) Bessette of Bennington, VT, her son Gary LaPerle of Latham, NY, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ruth is predeceased by her parents, brother Doug Leibensperger and son Robert B. LaPerle.

Funeral services will be Friday June 19, at 10 am from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls on Thursday, June 18, from 3 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to either the American Cancer Society or the Second Chance Humane Society through the funeral home.

Hilda T. Willbrant

Petersburgh/Berlin – Hilda T. (Thomas) Willbrant, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls.

Eleanor M. Heidecke

Stephentown – Eleanor M. Heidecke, 87, longtime resident of Stephentown, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015

Eleanor was born in Manhattan, New York, a daughter of the late James and Marie Rhodes. She lived as a homemaker caring for her husband and daughters. Eleanor was an amazing, strong and tenacious woman.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fritz Heidecke; brothers, Eddie Rhodes and James Rhodes.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Ellen Persichina and her husband Thomas and Karen Glennon; cherished grandchildren, Jesse, Jamie, Catherine, Thomas, Christopher, Michelle and Neil; 5 adoring great-grandchildren; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the loving care of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown.

Joan Lewisohn Crowell

Joan Lewisohn Crowell, poet, author, composer, and activist died on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at her home in Quogue, New York surrounded by her children. She was 93.

She was the wife of David G. Crowell, who pre-deceased her six years ago, and the former wife of Sidney Simon, the artist who co-founded the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture while they were married.

Eleanor M. Fairbanks

Hoosick Falls – Eleanor M. Fairbanks, 102, passed away on Wednesday May 20, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont. She resided on Albany Street in Hoosick Falls and was the wife of the late Fred Fairbanks who died in 1988.

Eleanor was born on June 17, 1912, in North Hoosick, New York, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Prime) McClure. She graduated from the Walter A. Wood School in 1929. Eleanor taught school in West Hoosick and Pittstown, New York. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include her son Alan (Patricia) Finzer of Shaftsbury, Vermont, daughter Andra “Ann” Wheeler of Hazlet, New Jersey, four grandchildren, a great-grandchild and her beloved nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by a brother Robert McClure.

Funeral services will be Friday May 22, at 10:30 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York. Burial will follow the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick, New York.

Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice through the funeral home.

Joseph Bromirski

Hoosick Falls – Joseph A. Bromirski 89, passed away on Saturday May 16, at the Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center. He resided on Rocky Lane in Bennington, VT.

Joseph was born on March 13, 1926, in Hoosick Falls, New York, son of the late Marcel and Cecelia (Kalivada) Bromirski. He graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. Joseph was a member of the National Guard Company C, formerly in Hoosick Falls. He was employed as a machinist at Reynolds Tool & Die in North Hoosick, NY and Coe Manufacturing in Tigard, Oregon. He and his daughter Susan lived in Oregon for twenty-two years before moving back to Bennington. Joseph was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues in Hoosick Falls, Bennington and Oregon. He raised beagle puppies at his parents’ farm. Joseph was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. He was a baseball fan of the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox.

Survivors other than his daughter Susan of Bennington include several nieces and nephews. Joseph is predeceased by a sister Felice Grozine and two brothers Henry and Alexander Bromirski.

Funeral services will be Thursday May 21 at 11 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 am until the start of the service. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to Diabetes Research or the Second Chance Animal Shelter of Shaftsbury, Vermont through the funeral home.

Richard Lefebvre

Hoosick Falls – Richard P. Lefebvre, 80, died on Tuesday morning May 12, 2015, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vermont. He resided on Hurley Street in Hoosick Falls, NY with his wife Pauline Lefebvre.

Richard was born on January 27, 1935, in Waterbury, Vermont, son of the late Francis and Cecile M. (Philippon) Lefebvre. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Sargents Association. Richard served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Richard, for many years, delivered the Bennington Banner and the Troy Record throughout the area.

Survivors other than his wife Pauline include his five daughters Angela F. Nichols of Norfolk,VA, Brenda M. Davies, San Antonio, TX, Cynthia M. Henry, Manchester, VT, Diane T. Lefebvre, Buskirk, NY, Erica A. Lefebvre, Bennington, VT and one son Michael R. Lefebvre of Hoosick Falls, NY. Richard is also survived by a brother Donald Lefebvre of Swanton, VT and a sister Frances Ruggles of Morrisville, VT as well as 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Lefebvre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday May 16 at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls,NY on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Area Church Association or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
