Lisa M. Prebble
North Hoosick – Lisa M. Prebble, 51, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She had resided on NY Rt. 67 in North Hoosick, NY.
Lisa was born on November 19, 1962, in Bennington. She graduated from Rutland School and was a florist for many years.
Survivors include her fiance, Douglas Paddock of North Hoosick, her parents, Susan and husband Paul Genest of Edgewater, FL, and Charles and wife Janice Prebble of Hoosick Falls, NY, her sisters, Tracie Bentz of Jupiter, FL, and Nicole and husband Thomas Patnode of Hudson Falls, NY, her children, Chelsea Poplin of Edgewater, FL, and Charles Poplin of Gulf Port, MS, and several aunts and uncles. Lisa will be missed by her fur babies, Charlie, Scarlet and Kiki, who were the love of her life.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk/Hudson Humane Society through the funeral home.
Gary J. Cramer
Hoosick Falls – Gary J. Cramer, 53, died on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. Gary had resided on River Road in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his wife, Lynn (Burgess) Cramer.
Born on December 23, 1960, in Cambridge, NY, Gary was the son of John F. Cramer and Roberta Breese and husband Bob. He was a graduate of Hoosick Falls Central High School. Gary served his Country in the United States Air Force.
Gary was a member of the Hoosick Falls Fire Department and a former member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad. He worked for the Village of Hoosick Falls for many years as a dispatcher. He also worked at Bijur Lubricating in Bennington, VT, as well as at Mack Molding in Arlington, VT. Gary enjoyed watching football and NASCAR as well as listening to music.
Survivors, other then his wife Lynn, include his two children, Daniel Cramer and Alexis Cramer, both of Hoosick Falls, his two sisters, Mariea Rousseau and husband Brian of Hoosick Falls, Lisa Johnson and husband Glen of Rhode Island, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 23, at 6 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Falls Fire Department or the charity of one’s choice through the funeral home.
Thelma A. Locke
Stephentown – Thelma A. Locke of 79 East Road, Stephentown, NY, died July 26, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA, with family at her side.
Born September 23, 1918, in Groveland, MA, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Ada (Holland) Aiken. She married the love of her life, Percy W. Locke, on her birthday, September 23, 1945. Together they owned and operated an ice and coal business and a poultry farm. She worked for many years from the late 30s into the 60s as a chicken sexer.
Percy and Thelma moved to the Berkshires in the early 60s where Percy trained and showed Morgan horses (with Thelma always at his side) for Green Meads Farm in Richmond, MA.
Thelma leaves her grandchildren, Erika and husband Joe Voltoline, Michael and wife Marie Locke, Jacob Locke, Nathan and wife Breanna Sumy, Stephanie Sumy, Laura and husband Bill White and Abby Locke, her niece, Sandra Gilmore and partner Greg Knowlton of Chichester, NH, her nephews, Joseph “Pick” Cole and Eugene “Nipper” Cole and his wife Evelyn of Athens, ME, her niece, Thelma and husband Tom Rheaume of Stephentown, and several great-grandchildren and great-nieces and great-nephews.
An animal lover all of her life, she and Percy exhibited their beloved Palomino stallion, Golden Delicious, to many state championships in the 50s and 60s. Thelma also bred and exhibited Boston terriers and miniature poodles. In her later years, she delighted in the company of her many peacocks, especially her favorite, Vane, and Herm the cat.
Thelma is pre-deceased by her husband Percy, who died on February 22, 2001, her two sons, Earle L. Locke and Raymond McFarlane, Jr., her siblings, Daisy Aiken, Dorothy Cole, Earle L. Aiken and Donald Aiken.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 20, at 1 pm at Garfield Cemetery, Stephentown. A reception will follow at the Stephentown Fire Department Pavilion.
Arrangements are by the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home in Stephentown.

Gordon Durkey
Hoosick Falls – Gordon Durkey, 44, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at his residence on Elm Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. He was the son of Marie (Woodard) O’Dell of Hoosick Falls and the late Loren Durkey, and stepson to William O’Dell of Hoosick Falls.
Gordon was born on March 30, 1970, in Cambridge, NY. He graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School. He was previously employed at WCW, Inc. in Hoosick Falls. Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, time spent with his family and time in the woods. He was also a Jeff Gordon fan.
Survivors, other than his mother Marie, include his sisters, Shirley and husband Charles Fedler of Cambridge and Donna and husband John Poulen of Bennington, VT, his brother, Loren Durkey Jr. of Arizona, his step brothers, Randy O’Dell and Donna Hammond, Richard and wife Cathy O’Dell and Loren “Rocky” and wife Linda O’Dell, his nieces, Sara Dann, Jamie Poulen, Andrea Good and Laura O’Dell, and his nephews, Shane Holbrook, Richard O’Dell, Rocky O’Dell and Danny and Jeffrey Hammond.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
Ruth Burns
Hoosick Falls – Ruth Josephine Laut Burns, 92, died peacefully Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing Facility in Clifton Park, NY. Ruth was born in Albany, NY, on February 5, 1922, and was the loving daughter of the late George and Josephine Laut. Ruth was a graduate of Albany High School and Syracuse University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nursing. Ruth worked as a Registered Nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany upon its opening and was later employed by Rensselaer County as a Public Health Nurse serving Hoosick Falls, NY, and the surrounding communities for over thirty five years.
Ruth had resided in Hoosick Falls, where she and her late husband raised their two children, and she was later a resident of Clifton Park and Coburg Village in Rexford, NY. After the death of her husband in 1970, Ruth devoted her life to the raising of her children and, later, her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, reading and knitting. She was an active member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, serving as President of the Susannah Wesley Circle and a member of Over the Speed Limit. She was involved with her local Garden Club and Chairman of their Herb Committee. She was also a member of the Clifton Park Study Club.
Ruth was the wife of the late William E. Burns, mother of Jonathan S. Burns and wife Sue of Hoosick Falls and Judith L. LaVardera and husband Frank of Clifton Park. She was also the grandmother of Stephanie LaVardera, Jonathan W. Burns, Jennifer LaVardera, Jeremy Burns and Bradley Burns. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Burns is pre-deceased by her brothers, George Laut Jr., Walter C. Laut and Robert A. Laut.
There will be no calling hours, and the burial will be private. There will be a memorial service at the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church on Monday, September 15, at 11 am. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls. Mrs. Burns asked that anyone wishing to should send a donation, in her memory, to the charity of their choice.
Terry Bingham
New Lebanon – Terry Bingham, 68, died peacefully Tuesday morning, September 9, 2014, at his home with his family at his side. Born in Albany, NY, on March 9, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert and Fannie Coons Bingham. Terry was a 1964 graduate of New Lebanon High School and celebrated his 50th Class Reunion on July 12. He married his beloved wife, Judith A. Brown Bingham, on January 16, 1965, in New Lebanon, NY.
Janet K. Rogers
Stephentown – Janet K. Gill Rogers, 69, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, MA. Born in Port Chester, NY, on April 7, 1945, Janet was the daughter of the late Norman and Elizabeth Wright Gill. Janet was raised in Greenwich and Stamford, CT, and also lived on Long Island, NY, and most recently in Stephentown, NY.
Margie Yerton Jones
Berlin – Margie Yerton Jones, 92, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Born in Berlin, NY, on April 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ada Bly Yerton. Margie had been a lifelong resident of Berlin and was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and traveling with her late husband Ralph.
She was the wife of the late Ralph C. Jones, who died December 20, 1995, beloved mother of John Jones, Linda Hall and Hattie and husband Barry Buck, all of Berlin, and the late Anne Marie Werner, mother-in-law of Jozsef Werner of Bennington and sister of Donald Yerton of Berlin and the late Dorothy Bentley. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was Saturday, September 6, at 11:30 am at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, NY, with Pastor Peter Seide officiating. Interment followed in Meadowlawn Cemetery, Petersburgh. Relatives and friends called on Saturday prior to the service from 10 to 11:30 am at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berlin Rescue Squad or to the First Baptist Church of Berlin in memory of Margie Jones.
