Alric W. Jones Sr.

Petersburgh – Alric W. “Mike” Jones Sr., 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Smith Road in Petersburgh, NY, and was the husband of the late Betty (Thomas) Jones.

Born on November 5, 1935, in Berlin, NY, Mike was the son of the late Adolf and Nora (Brown) Jones. He attended schools in the Berlin area. Alric was employed at W.J. Cowee, Inc. in Berlin for forty years until retiring. He then worked at the Berlin Transfer Station. Mike enjoyed gardening and working on cars.

Survivors include his children, Peter and wife Joyce Jones of North Petersburgh, NY, Gary and wife Joyce Jones of Cherry Plain, NY, Edward and wife Michelle Jones of Stillman Village, Petersburgh, Brian and wife Tracie Jones of Eagle Bridge, NY, Michael Jones of North Petersburgh, Alric W. Jones Jr. of Petersburgh, Tammy and husband Edmund Spizowski of Florida and Sandra Betits. Alric is also survived by a sister, Dorothy, two brothers, Howard and Harold, fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his dog, Snickers. He is pre-deceased by two sisters, Ruth and Agnes, a brother, George and a grandchild, Kyle.

Funeral services are Friday, July 18, at 12 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial will follow the service at the Berlin Baptist Cemetery in Berlin. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 am until the start of the service.

Malcolm F. Townsend

Petersburgh – Malcolm F. Townsend, 66, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on the Petersburgh Junction Road in Petersburgh, NY.

Born on January 16, 1948, in Bennington, Malcolm was the son of the late Floyd Townsend and Florence (Burch) Townsend. Malcolm attended Hoosick Falls Central School and was employed at several area farms. He enjoyed fishing and bike riding.

Survivors include his sisters, Sally Webster and husband Bob, Peggy Morin and husband Tom, all of Hoosick Falls, NY, Judy LaFond of Hoosick Falls, Joyce Ellsworth and husband Bill of Easton, NY, Jeanette Chaffee and husband Norm of Pownal, VT, Nancy Coulter and husband Ed of Pownal and Molly Labonte and husband Don of Petersburgh. Malcolm is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services were at 11 am on Friday, July 11, from the Mahar Funeral Home. Burial followed the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick, NY. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Friday morning. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center through the funeral home.

Virginia R. Green

North Hoosick – Virginia R. Green, 81, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at her residence on Route 67 in North Hoosick, NY. She was the wife on the late Joe Robertson, her first husband, and the late James Green, who died in 2002.

Born on July 14, 1932, in Shaftsbury, VT, Virginia was the daughter of the late Irene and Perle (Cross) Gulley. She attended the one room school in White Creek, NY, and Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, NY. She worked for twenty-one years at Keough Brothers Furniture and then twenty-three years at Johnson Controls in Bennington, VT, until retiring.

Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Green of North Hoosick, her sisters, Phyllis Ruggles of Shaftsbury Hollow, VT, Doris Lucas and Teresa Livingston, and her brother, Edward “Sonny” Cross, all of White Creek, and a very special girl Virginia raised from the age of three months, Emily S. Zirbik of Pownal, VT. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Virginia is pre-deceased by a daughter, JoAnn Robertson, and a brother, Perle Cross.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls.

John W. Roberson Sr.

Cambridge – John “Jack” W. Roberson Sr., 64, passed away on July 2, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided at Lake Lauderdale in Cambridge, NY.

Born on April 18, 1950, in Troy, NY, Jack was the son of the late Harold and Bernice (Burgess) Roberson. He was a self-employed contractor in the Hoosick Falls, NY area. Jack enjoyed spending time at Lake Lauderdale with his family and friends. He was also a member of the American Legion in Cambridge, as well as an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his daughters, Renee Harrington, Melissa Bohmer, Shannon Roberson and Shelley Roberson, his son, John Roberson Jr., his significant other, Debbie Brahn, the mother of his children, Laura Roberson, his sisters, Barbara DeLuca and husband Albert, Sue Perovich and husband Gary, his brothers, Gene and wife Donna, Donald and William Roberson. Jack is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with their expenses.

Jinnie I Leonard

Hoosick Falls – Jinnie I Leonard, 89, a resident of Richmond Avenue, Hoosick Falls, NY, died peacefully at the Hoosick Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on June 22, 2014. Born on June 3, 1925, in Middle Granville, NY, she was the daughter of Frederic Morse and Cora (Crosier) Morse.

Jinnie received her early education in Granville. During World War II, she worked at the Behr-Manning Industries in Watervliet, NY. Following the war, she was employed as a telephone operator in Troy, NY.

Jinnie married her husband of 63 years, Philip Leonard, on April 5, 1951, in a military wedding in Arkansas. For many years she worked as a customer service representative at KeyBank in Hoosick Falls and, in later years, volunteered at the Hoosick Falls Health Center.

Jinnie’s zest for life and love of adventure was evident in many of her passions. She loved to travel throughout the world, and she and Phil visited over thirty countries on six continents as well as almost every state in the U.S. She enjoyed dancing with her husband at various venues, playing cards with family and friends and trips to casinos. But most of all, Jinnie enjoyed spending quality time with family, including her husband, children, grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren, who showed great excitement when seeing her, anticipating the hidden surprises in her pocketbook.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Fred and his wife Janet from Nebo, North Carolina, a daughter, Sue and her husband Greg of North Bennington, VT, a grandson and wife, Chris and Lauren Maguire of Arlington, VT, a granddaughter, Kara, of Lafayette, Colorado, and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Hogan Maguire, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jinnie is pre-deceased by two brothers, Oliver and David, and a sister, Clara.

There will be no calling hours or service, but instead, at Jinnie’s request, there will be a private “family celebration of her wonderful life.” Arrangements are under the direction of Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY.

Helen M. Novak

Hoosick Falls – Helen M. Novak, 91, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. She had resided on Hurley Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late Frank P. Novak Sr., who died in 1997.

Born on August 15, 1922, in Hoosick Falls, Helen was the daughter of the late Roman and Stella (Kleasua) Wrubleski. She attended schools in Hoosick Falls and was a homemaker all of her life. Helen enjoyed being with her family and friends and liked to help whenever she could. She also enjoyed gardening and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include her son, Frank P. Novak Jr. and wife Nancy of Waterford, NY, and her grandchildren, Richie, Ashley, Brian, Jeanine and Sean Novak. Helen is pre-deceased by her son, Richard Novak, who died in 1987, two sisters, Lucy Wrubleski and Stacia Provensal, and a brother, Frank Wrubleski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, June 30, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Sunday from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.

Christian J. Goodermote

Hoosick – Christian J. “Chris” Goodermote, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. He had resided on Dundee Avenue in Hoosick, NY, with his loving wife and best friend of 45 years, Kathy (Baldwin) Goodermote.

Born on April 8, 1950, in Troy, NY, Chris was the son of Harold and Agnes (Ernst) Goodermote Sr. In 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division and served in the Vietnam War. Chris was the recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, two Overseas Bars, National Defense Medal and Expert Badge (M-16).

After working 33 years, Chris retired from Saint Gobain Corporation. He was known for his work ethic, tireless energy and dedication. Chris was an avid reader and a classic car enthusiast. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening and had a passion for history. He was a family man and enjoyed endless hours with his grandchildren and “tinkering” in his garage.

Chris is survived by his wife, Kathy, his three children, Judith and husband Tracey Poissant of West Sand Lake, NY, Becky Goodermote and Christian and wife Kellie Goodermote all of Hoosick Falls, NY, two brothers, Harold Goodermote Jr. of North Hoosick, NY, and Ray Goodermote of Troy, seven grandchildren and many friends and extended family. Chris also leaves his furry companions who will miss him tremendously.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 13, at 5 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Historical Society through the funeral home.

Miriam Plenzig

Hoosick Falls – Miriam (Smith) Plenzig, 94, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. She was the wife of the late Francis H. Plenzig.

Born on May 22, 1920, in Syracuse, NY, Miriam was the daughter of the late Alvin G. and Blanche (Greene) Smith. She attended Hoosick Falls High School and ATI in Canton, NY. Miriam was a dietician at Northern Westchester Hospital and Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

She is survived by two brothers, Robert L. Smith of Hoosick Falls and Peter J. Smith of New Mexico, a sister, Barbara Dougherty of Massena, NY, a step-daughter, Cheryl Kraich of Colorado, three step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Miriam is pre-deceased by a sister, Louise Guertin, a brother, John A. Smith, a step-son, Francis Plenzig Jr., a nephew, Kevin Dougherty, and a niece, Judy Le May.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 11, at 2 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Burial was Thursday in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation through the funeral home.
