George Dewitt Paddock

Hoosick – George Dewitt Paddock, 82, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Babcock Lake Road in Hoosick, NY. Born on May 5, 1931, in Bennington, he was the son of the late Clayton and Lillian (Saunders) Paddock.

George attended schools in Hoosick Falls, NY. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1952 to 1954. He worked in the construction business in the Troy and Albany areas, out of the local 154, now local 190.

Survivors include his sister, Helen Wagar of Babcock Lake Road in Hoosick, and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by two sisters and three brothers.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 6, at 4 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Hoosick Rural Cemetery in Hoosick.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions in George’s memory may be made to the Activity Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington through the funeral home.

Raymond Sears, Jr.

West Lebanon – Raymond “Dutch” Sears, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Crescent Manor Nursing Center in Bennington, VT, with his family at his side. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on March 22, 1937, he was the son of the late Raymond and Alice Hatch Sears, Sr.

Dutch was a resident of West Lebanon, NY, for most of his life and had worked on a chicken farm there. He then worked in construction and helped build the Walter B. Howard Elementary School in West Lebanon and the Mohawk Mall in Schenectady, NY. He later was employed by Sampson Hydraulics and Zwack, Inc. in Stephentown, NY, as a machinist. He was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing.

Dutch was the former husband of Margaret Sears of Stephentown, devoted father of Tammy and husband Jon Cimijotti of East Greenbush, NY, Christine Sears-Parker and husband George of Hoosick Falls, NY, Donald and wife Carissa Sears of East Chatham, NY, and Charley Sears and Michelle Hoffman of East Nassau, NY, grandfather of Courtney and husband Joe Marro, Samantha Sears, Corey Cimijotti, Fallon Parker, Timmy Sears and Dawson Cimijotti, brother of William Sears of West Lebanon and the late Robert Sears. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is Friday, June 6, at 10 am at the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, with Rev. Clinton Dugger officiating. Relatives and friends were invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm.

Agnes “Nessie” Lassor Funeral Service

Hoosick Falls – A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, June 7, at 12 noon from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Following the Mass the family would like everyone to join them at the Hoosick Falls Country Club for a reception and to celebrate Nessie’s life.

Nessie passed away on April 22, 2014, in Bennington, VT. She was the wife of the late Larry Lassor. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, which is handling the arrangements.

Janet B. Hall

Hoosick Falls – Janet B. Hall, 81, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She had resided on Bussey Lane in Hoosick Falls, NY, and was the wife of the late Rufus Hall.

Born on January 3, 1933, in Cambridge, NY, Janet was the daughter of the late Wesley and Hazel (Smith) Bain. Janet worked for the Robson & Geraghty Insurance Company in Hoosick Falls for many years, until retiring. She enjoyed her many flower gardens, bird watching and her beloved cat Smokey. She was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include her daughter, Janette and husband David Galusha of Hoosick Falls, her sons, William and wife Lori Hall of Chantilly, VA, and Robert and wife Rosalie Hall of Hoosick Falls. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Janet is pre-deceased by a sister, Audrey.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center through the funeral home.

Sergeant Damon C. Eppinette

Eagle Bridge – Sergeant Damon C. Eppinette, of Eagle Bridge, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 25, 2014. Sgt. Edward Hackett

Hoosick Falls – Edward Hackett, 76, died suddenly Friday, May 23, 2014, after a long illness. Lifelong residents of Hoosick Falls, NY, he and his wife of 53 years, Barbara, were also winter residents of Naples, FL, since retirement.

Ed owned and operated several local bars and restaurants for many years. When Ed left the restaurant business he went to work for various milk processing companies as a dairy inspector. His personality was well suited for both of those careers, and he quickly gained the friendship and affection of most people he met, both young and old. He gained another new batch of loyal friends while living in Florida. Ed earned a reputation as one of the most consistently good shuffleboard players on his team.

Survivors, other than his wife, are his sons, Joseph Hackett and Kevin Button and wife Robin, and his daughter, Loreen Hackett, all of Hoosick Falls, his grandchildren, Nicole Aldrich and husband Josh, Tori Hackett and Victoria, Owen Hackett and Darcie Hackett, and his great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Corey Aldrich. Ed was also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, including one cousin to whom he was a substitute dad, John Waitekus.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Saturday, May 31, from 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rensselaer County Hospice through the funeral home.

Anna A. Winters

Hoosick Falls – Anna A. Winters, 93, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. She was the wife of the late August J. Winters Jr.

Born on March 22, 1921, in Sherbrook, Canada, Anna was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Rousseau) Rivard. She attended schools in the Town of Hoosick, NY. Anna was a seamstress at CB Sports in Bennington, VT.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Burnham and husband Robert of Warrensburg, NY, her sons, Richard Winters and Sandra Singer of Massachusetts and August Winters of Center Brunswick, NY, her sister, Joan Baker of Troy, NY, her brother, Theodore Rivard of Maryland, and her eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Anna is pre-deceased by a grandson, David Winters, and a daughter-in-law, Ann Winters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, May 28, at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Tuesday, May 27, from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital through the funeral home.

Anne LaFlamme

Hoosick Falls – Anne (Kovage) LaFlamme, 96, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Emeritus at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, VT.

Born on October 23, 1917, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Anne was the daughter of Anna (Lugas) and Stanley Kovage. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. In 1936 she married Anthony LaFlamme of Bennington, and they made their home in Burlington, VT.

While in Burlington Anne attended the Elie Academy of Beauty Culture and became a licensed beautician in 1963. After a brief internship, she opened Anne’s Beauty Shop, which she operated until 1998 from the basement of her long time residence on Pearl Street in Burlington.

Anne was an advocate of physical fitness long before it became a trend. She walked daily, practiced yoga and started downhill skiing in her fifties. She took great pride in her Lithuanian heritage and, after studying the Russian language at UVM, made a trip to Vilnius, Lithuania in 1988 to explore her parents’ homeland.

A devoted Catholic, Anne received her Holy Sacraments from the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls, which she rejoined after her return to the Village in 1998. While in Burlington she was a faithful communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, where she sang in the choir and was a long time member of the Third Order of Franciscans.

She was the last surviving member of her generation, pre-deceased by her brothers, Stanley, John, Charles and Anthony. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Susan Ratzan, M.D., Charles Kovage, Jr., Karen Arnold, Michael Kovage, Kimberly Hayden, Joan Kay, Katherine Reed, Constance Newell, Paul Kovage, Anthony Kovage, Jr. and Thea Hambright, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, May 19, at noon from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There were no calling hours. Arrangements were under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mary’s Academy or the VNA and Hospice at Southern Vermont Health Care through the funeral home.

Lisa Ann Barnhart

Hoosick Falls – Lisa Ann Barnhart, 51, daughter of Linda (Siemens) McClellan and the late Bernard L. Barnhart, Jr. was born in North Adams, MA, on December 28, 1962. She passed away at home at Pathfinder Village, Edmeston, NY, on May 13, 2014, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.

Lisa received her education in Shaftsbury, VT, and Bennington, VT, and began her working career at the Ramada Inn in Bennington prior to moving from her home in Hoosick Falls, NY, to Edmeston in 1991. She worked in Oneonta, NY, while living in the very special community of Pathfinder Village, Edmeston.

Lisa was an avid sportswoman and enjoyed many sporting achievements through her participation in Vermont and New York Special Olympics at local, national and international levels winning many medals for track and field, swimming and cross country skiing. Lisa enjoyed bowling, music, dancing, motorcycle rides, travel, celebrations with her family and her many friends.

In addition to her mother, Lisa is survived by her step-father, Harold McClellan of Hoosick Falls, her sister, April Maxwell and partner Stuart Murdoch of England, her nieces, Brittany DeWitt and partner Daniel Boyland of Hoosick Falls and Lydia Maxwell of England, her great-nephew, Nathaniel Boyland of Hoosick Falls, her aunts, Marion Cipperly and Wilma Gutermuth of Hoosick Falls, and several wonderful cousins from across the United States. Lisa is pre-deceased by her step-father, R. Gordon Russell, who held a very special place in her heart for the love and care he provided.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 17, at 11 am from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at the Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick, NY. A reception will follow committal services at St. Mark’s Church Hall.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Friday, May 16, from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Pathfinder Village Incorporated or the Bennington Area Special Olympics through the funeral home.

Special thanks to the loving staff at Pathfinder Village who took such great care of Lisa in her time of need, especially Jamie Miner, Robin and Sherry.
