Hoosick Falls – Salvatore “Sal” Gabriele, 51, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided with his wife Sandee (Kulcsar) Gabriele on First Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born on September 14, 1961, in Port Chester, NY, Sal was the son of Gail Fox and the late Salvatore Gabriele Sr. He was raised by his loving grandparents Lucy and Luigi Conte. He attended schools in Port Chester. Sal formerly owned and operated Sal’s Auto Electronic on Route 7 in Hoosick, NY. He also was property manager for Lester Goodermote. Sal would always help people and wanted to make a difference for children. He enjoyed the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors, other than his wife Sandee, include his daughters, Amber Sherman and husband Chris of Bennington and Rebecca Zoller and husband Josh of Hoosick Falls, his sisters, Lillian Fowler of Bennington and Lisa Gabriele of Bridgeport, CT, his grandchildren, Meghan and Nolan Sherman and Damien Thieverge, and many beloved neices and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 7, at 5 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 to 5 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

J. Arba Brenenstuhl
Hoosick Falls – J. Arba Brenenstuhl, 94, a lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls, NY, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Center for Health and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls following a short illness. Born February 21, 1919, he was the son of the late Arba J. and Mabel (Kautz) Brenenstuhl.
Mr. Brenenstuhl graduated from Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls and worked for several years as a stone mason and carpenter’s assistant for Ira Stevens before enlisting in the United States Army in 1944. Upon entering the service he was sent to Syracuse University for six months and later air training school at the U.S. Army Airbase in Midland, TX. Mr. Brenenstuhl was ordered to England where he served as a bombardier with the 388th Air Group over Europe during World War II. After serving with distinction, earning the rank of First Lieutenant and receiving three Bronze Stars, he was honorably discharged from active duty in October 1945. He remained a member of the Army Reserve until retiring with the rank of Major in 1984.
For many years following his service he was a self-employed carpenter in the Hoosick Falls area and spent some time working as a logger drawing pulpwood to area mills. He retired in 1984.
In his quiet time Mr. Brenenstuhl was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the West Hoosick Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #40 and the Masonic Lodge #400, both in Hoosick Falls, and the Hoosick Grange Lodge #1127.
Mr. Brenenstuhl’s survivors include his nephew, Roger and wife Diana Corbett of Hoosick Falls, a sister-in-law, Shirley Brenenstuhl of Hoosick, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Brenenstuhl is pre-deceased by a brother, Willis Brenenstuhl, and three sisters, Barbara Corbett, Beulah McFadden and Elva Fisk.
At Mr. Brenenstuhl’s request a graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 10:30 am at the Warren Cemetery in Boyntonville, NY. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Masonic Lodge or the Hoosick Grange.

David M. Nichols, Sr.
Pittstown – David M. Nichols, Sr., 39, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013, at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Troy, NY, on July 27, 1974, he was the beloved son of Frederick E. Nicholas, Sr. of Troy and the late Velma Marcus Nichols, who died September 1, 2012.

Kay ten Kraft Memorial Service
A Memorial service for Kay ten Kraft will be held on August 3 at 1 pm at the Stephentown Federated Church. Kay was a dear and cherished friend to many in the community. She was a marvelous fiber artist who loved to share her knowledge with anyone who was interested in the fiber arts. She loved people and animals, and she shared this love by being in several knitting and spinning groups. Her love, laughter, and joy of life was infectious and inspired many of the people who knew her. Her sudden death was shocking to all, and she is deeply missed by all who loved her.

Irene Walther
Stephentown – H. Irene McClain Walther, 87, of Newton Road, Stephentown, NY, died on Thursday evening, July 18, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 31, 1925, in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Sweeney and Beulah Tilton McClain. She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth G. Walther, who died on October 11, 2004. They were married on September 22, 1946, in Washington, PA. She was a member of the Stephentown Federated Church, where she was once President of the Ladies Aid.
Irene graduated from Washington High School and worked for a shipyard during World War II and for Duncan Miller Glass in Pennsylvania. The Walthers moved to Stephentown in 1956, relocating from East Meadow, LI. After raising her family, she baked cookies for the Pease Farm and worked at the Walter C. Sykes General Store in Stephentown for over 15 years, retiring in the late 1980s. She was an avid rose gardener whose favorite color was pink. She liked growing vegetables, making crafts, quilting and crocheting and model trains. Besides her husband, Irene is pre-deceased by siblings, James McClain and Lois Hastings.
Survivors include her children, David E. and wife Cheryl Walther of West Stephentown, NY, Janice E. Walther of Stephentown and Donna L. and husband Skip Densing of Pittstown, NY, her sister, Nora Gayle and Boyd Mansfield of Washington, PA, her grandchildren, Rebecca and husband Steve Wulff, Jonathan and wife Sara Walther, Matthew, Michael and Sarah Densing, her great-grandchildren, Ashley R. and husband Brian Zimmerman, Grace and Sophia Wulff, Jeremiah, Miriam and Malachi Walther, as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Isabella and Isaac Zimmerman.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 21, at 7 pm in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, Stephentown, where Rev. Trygve Tomlinson of the West Stephentown Baptist Church and Rev. Jason White of the Grafton Baptist Church officiated. Relatives and friends were invited for visitation at the funeral home before the service.
Committal services took place on Monday, July 22, at 2 pm at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY, where Irene will be buried with her late husband.
Memorial contributions to the Stephentown Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168, would be appreciated.
Ruth F. Bush
Hancock – Ruth F. Russell Bush, 97, of Hancock Road, Hancock, MA, died on Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013, at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown, MA.
Born May 6, 1916, in Heartwellville, VT, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Alice Fear Russell. She was the loving wife of the late Francis R. Bush, who died on August 30, 1981. They were married in 1935. She was a member of the Hancock Baptist Church.
Educated in Readsboro, VT, schools, Mrs. Bush and her family moved to Hancock in 1952. She worked at Cornish Wire, Sprague Electric and Brightwater Paper before doing domestic work for many families in the area. She was a news reporter for the Town of Hancock and a member of the Willing Workers of Hancock along with the Hancock Fire Auxiliary. Ruth bowled at Lar-A-Bowl in New Lebanon, NY. She enjoyed genealogy, knitting, sewing and crocheting. She traveled extensively to such areas as Alaska, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and took cruises to Hawaii, Bermuda and Maine.
Survivors include her two children, Francis R. and wife Marlene A. Bush Jr. of North Adams, MA, and Sandra R. and husband Sherm Derby of Hancock, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She is pre-deceased by her siblings, Benjamin Russell, Kathleen Lewis and Earl Russell.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 11 am in the Hancock Baptist Church where Rev. Sigmund Sadzinski will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hancock Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, NY, on Friday from 5 to 7 pm for visitation.

Allen W. Alderman
Cherry Plain, NY – In loving memory, Allen Wayne “Hooter” Alderman, age 58, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was born on September 1, 1954, in Troy, NY, to Rodney Alderman and Joanne Mooney Simmons.
Allen grew up in Berlin, NY. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1972. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army in Troy. He served in the Army for nine years with the 82nd Airborne Division on the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
Allen was a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington, VT. He loved deer hunting, fishing, watching western movies, playing baseball/softball and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Jets fan.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Alderman, and his first wife, Audrey Kimball Alderman.
Allen is survived by his mother, Joanne Mooney Simmons, his stepmother, Judith Perham, his fiancé, Florence Church, his former wife, Ann Smith, his brothers, David, Scott and Eric Alderman and Tom Baldwin, Jr., his sisters Theresa Stevens, Tammy Perham, Michelle Brown, Kimberly Stuckman and Tammy Carollo, his sons, Corey and Randy Alderman and Casey Kimball, his daughter, Christina Alderman, six grandchildren, Samantha, Alex, Eva, Audrey, Charlie and Carly, his loving nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service with full military honors was held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY, on July 16 at 1 pm by the United States Army and cemetery volunteers.
A local memorial service will be held at the Berlin Baptist Cemetery in Center Berlin, NY, on July 20 at 10 am. Luanne J. Stevens
Petersburgh – Luanne James Stevens of the Taconic Trail, Petersburgh, NY, died peacefully at her home on Friday, June 28, 2013, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Bennington, VT, on January 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Layton D. and Clara Wood James. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 50 years, Earl A. Stevens, her children, Judy Crandall and Gregory E. Stevens, her grandchildren, John and Jolene Bedford, and her siblings Betsy Kimball and Layton R. James.
Raised in the southwest Hoosick, NY, area, Luanne was a 1952 graduate of the Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, NY. After raising her children, she attended EOC in Troy, NY, to become an office worker. She worked many years for Seagroatt’s Florist in Berlin, NY, before starting to raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting and reading, and she loved to work on puzzles. She was a lifelong member of the Petersburgh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her three children, Joan M. and husband Mike Hill and Laurie and husband Ray Broadwell, all of Petersburgh, and Jodi Hubbard of Grafton, NY, her best friend of 70 years, Eleanor Herrington, her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Stevens of Stephentown, NY, her nine grandchildren, Jason (of the second litter), Jeremy, Clara, Shandra, Natasha, Ryan, Christopher, Sara and Curtis, along with 15 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks goes to Pat Mace and Cindy Skrandis for all of their help through the years.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 7, at 3 pm in the Petersburgh United Methodist Church, Head of Lane, Petersburgh with Rev. Gaylord “Jake” Campbell officiating. A time of fellowship followed in the Church hall. Relatives and friends were invited to visitation at the Church on Sunday from 1 pm until the start of the service.
