Jo Ann Hawks

Eagle Bridge – Jo Ann Hawks, 71, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She was the wife of C. Donald Hawks; they resided on Route 22 in Eagle Bridge, NY.
Born on July 14, 1941, in Cambridge, NY, Jo Ann was the daughter of the late Herman and Jean (Bentley) Marsh. Jo Ann graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School. She worked at Fairbanks Express in Hoosick Falls, NY, for thirty-seven years and later with RGI Insurance also in Hoosick Falls. Jo Ann was an avid Hummel collector and NASCAR fan. She enjoyed vacationing with her husband in Hampton Beach, NH, and at Lake Lauderdale, NY.
Survivors, other than her husband Donald, include her sisters, Cherry Millington of Hewitt, TX, Patricia Grennan and husband Bill of Hoosick Falls, Kay Wright and husband Howie of Cambridge and Lori Gardner and husband Jeff of Mesa, AZ, her brother, Donald Marsh and wife Karen of Castleton, NY, and her brother-in-law, Jack Hawks and wife Belva of Georgia. Jo Ann is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Center at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, which is handling the arrangements.

Ruth Marie Riley

Hoosick Falls – Ruth Marie Riley, 81, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She was the wife of the late John Riley, who died in 2006.
Born on May 20, 1931, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Ruth was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine (Fennessey) Lavin. She was educated at schools in Troy, NY, and Hoosick Falls. Ruth had been employed at Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury, VT. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruth liked cooking, baking and knitting, and she also loved her home in Groveside.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Riley of Bennington, VT, Trish Bossong and husband Jim of North Bennington, VT, her sons, Jack Riley and wife Laurie of South Lima, NY, and Tom Riley and wife Kristee of Groveside, NY. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Margaret Cottrell, her grandchildren, Meghann Rose, Patrick Riley, Nancy Mock, Melissa and Adam Frechette, John Riley, Jenna Green, Jamie and Meredith Lampman and Brendon, Brody, McKendrick and Abriel Bossong, her ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ruth is pre-deceased by a sister, Vi Carelli, and brothers, John and Robert Ellis, Paul, George, Ned and Bill Lavin.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Friday, March 1, at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Activity Center at the Danforth Adult Home or the Hoosick Falls Senior Citizen Center through the funeral home.

Catherine Relihan

Eagle Bridge – Catherine Relihan, 99, of Eagle Bridge, NY, died on February 22, 2013, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, after a brief illness.
Born on October 31, 1913, she was the youngest child of Sarah McAllen Relihan and Edward Relihan. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers, Tom and Neil and his wife Margaret, her sisters, Agnes Relihan and Sara Relihan Meagher and husband Jack, and her niece, Margaret (Marie) Relihan.

Erika Bain

Hoosick – Erika Bain, 68, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. She had resided on South Street in Hoosick, NY, with her husband Paul Bain.
Erika was born on January 18, 1945, in Munich, Germany. She was educated at schools in Germany. Erika was employed at the St. Dominic Home in the Bronx, NY, as a social services coordinator. Erika was a people person; she enjoyed helping people at the Hoosick Falls Health Center and making people laugh. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Survivors, other than her husband Paul, include her daughters, Lisa Mendez of Hoosick and Kimberly Dooley and husband William of Hoosick Falls, and her son, Christopher Edgar and wife Elizabeth of Newburgh, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ariel, Kayla, Alissa, Mitchell, Alex, Erika, Christopher Jr. and Christiana, her great-grandchildren, Alyanna and Aurora, and her dog, Bear. She is pre-deceased by a brother, Henry Migdal.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 2, at 2 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Burial will follow at Hoosick Rural Cemetery in Hoosick. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 to 2 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.

Walter Weber

Berlin – Walter “Cobb” Weber, age 82, died peacefully on February 12, 2013. He was born on February 23, 1930, in Coney Island, NY, to the late Dorothy Ahlquist. A lifelong resident of Berlin, NY, he is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Beverly.
Cobb was an accomplished carpenter and worked in various construction sites for over 30 years. When he wasn’t swinging the hammer or cutting a board, as a licensed barber, he would be cutting hair.

Ruth J. Atwater

Stephentown – Ruth J. Hoffman Atwater, 93, a lifelong resident of Stephentown, NY, died peacefully on Friday morning, February 8, 2013, at Springside of Pittsfield, MA.
Born in Stephentown on September 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Eunice White Hoffman. She was the loving wife of the late William E. Atwater, who died on February 23, 1990. They were married in New Lebanon, NY, on August 28, 1942. She attended Stephentown schools and in her earlier years worked as a domestic housekeeper in Williamstown, MA. After her marriage and the birth of her son, Ruth was a homemaker who loved housecleaning, gardening, home canning and collecting ornaments.
She is survived by her son, Kirk W. and wife Micky Atwater of Montverde, FL, her grandchildren, Chad W. and wife Vicki Atwater of Montverde and Heather L. and husband Chuck Riccardi of Stephentown, her great-grandchildren, Shelby and Cody Atwater and Travis and Derek Riccardi, along with nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her siblings, Dorothy Miner, Florence Crosier and John and William Hoffman.
Funeral services were held on Monday evening, February 11, at 7 pm in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, where Rev. Trygve C. Tomlinson officiated. Interment will be private in Garfield Cemetery.
Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home for visitation on Monday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 208, Stephentown, NY, 12168, in loving memory of Ruth J. Atwater.
