Developer Unveils Plans for Additional Business at Aldi Site

At the Brunswick Planning Board meeting Thursday, April 7, David Leon’s representatives asked the Board to approve what they labeled a minor build out change for the site of the proposed Aldi, Wendy’s and KFC, now under construction along Hoosick Road (NYS Route 7). The change, however, now includes the construction of a fifth building on the site for an Aroma Joe’s Drive-Thru Coffee (the Planet Fitness building already exists). Other proposed changes include a redesign of the Wendy’s building and parking space alterations and the installation of four electric vehicle charging stations. Grafton Town Council Meeting

At the April 11 regular meeting of the Grafton Town Council, EMT Services NY LLC (EMTS) gave a presentation in which they detailed their current partnership with the Grafton Rescue Squad (GRS). The agreement between the two is currently on a consultation basis, for such things as assessing best practices and bylaws in order to make sure the ambulance station is in compliance. EMTS also discussed the possibility of extending the agreement with GRS to include staffing services, mentioning some of the reasons this would be beneficial, such as alleviating pressure on current volunteers so they don’t get burned out. The Uncle Sam Parking Garage Will Come Down

The Troy Planning Commission is expected to hear plans within the next couple of months to take down the Uncle Sam parking Garage in Troy, located adjacent to the Troy Atrium between Third and Fourth Streets. The garage has been closed for more than a year, when chunks of concrete started falling. Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello tells The Eastwick Press she has requested the Planning Commission ensure that landscaping and trees be planted around the site and that the aftermath of the demolition be kept clean and safe while plans are made to redevelop the former garage location. Hoosick Town Council Meeting

Road Study Approved

Two of the more important takeaways from the Monday, April 11 meeting of the Hoosick Town Council both involved transportation. First, Supervisor Mark Surdam was notified shortly before the meeting that the Town’s application to the Capital District Transportation Committee (CDTC) for funding to complete an Assessment Management Plan to address the long-term needs of the Town’s roads has been approved. The second also involves CDTC, with Supervisor Surdam announcing he has been appointed to serve on that committee, one of only two Town and Village voting members. Residency Becomes Part of the Police Review Board Debate

Last spring, following an executive order from former Governor Andrew Cuomo, the Hoosick Falls Village Board formed a committee to begin a review of the policies and practices of the Village Police Department. Part of their report was the suggestion the Village form a Civilian and Reform Board to assist and advise the department, though they would lack any regulatory powers. To that effect, a local law was drafted and a public hearing on such was held at their Tuesday, April 12 meeting. There were no speakers.

Brian D. Jones – Obituary

Petersburgh – Brian D. Jones, II, 33, passed away April 7, 2022. Born in Bennington, VT on January 10, 1989, he was the son of Kathy (McCumiskey) and Brian Jones, Sr. of Petersburgh.

Brian was a hard working tradesman who worked in roofing, construction and masonry. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, snowboarding, gardening and his Harley-Davidson. Winfred H. Moses – Obituary

Berlin – Winfred “Fred” Herbert Moses, 87, of Old State Route 22, died peacefully at home surrounded by family, including his loving wife Joyce M. (Bink) Moses of 46 years.

He was born in Berlin next door to his present home on December 10, 1934, the son of the late Herbert and Eva (Southard) Moses. He was educated in Berlin Schools and employed by Troy Sand and Gravel. He enjoyed traveling to Maine.

Anthony Kovage – Obituary

Hoosick Falls – Anthony “Tony” Kovage, husband, father, brother, friend, master craftsman and so much more, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022.

Tony could be spotted around Hoosick Falls wearing his trademark white t-shirt, blue jeans and baseball cap from his extensive collection. Driving in his red truck, he’d always pass you by with a friendly wave and smile. And, it wasn’t just family and neighbors in town, he took great delight in conversation with anyone and everyone. Pownal – Samuel C. “Sam” Cottrell, 76, passed away Monday evening April 4, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Sam was born on February 25, 1946 in Troy, NY. He was the son of the late Cortland C. Cottrell and Margaret (Stearns) Cottrell. Sam was raised on a farm in Hoosick Falls, NY.
