Leachate From Petersburgh Landfill Has High PFOA Level

At the Petersburgh Town Board meeting on Monday July 18, Supervisor Webster said there has been some seepage of water out of the closed landfill, which is at the top of Jones Hollow Road near the Berlin town line. This leachate is making its way into surface streams which carry it down into the Little Hoosic River. Cumberland Farms Describes Plans To Take Over Elks Property
High PFOA Levels Found In Leachate From Hoosick Falls Landfill

The Village Board meeting on July 12 began with an engineer who is working on expansion of the Cumberland Farms in Hoosick Falls giving a presentation. Cumberland Farms is buying the neighboring property, formerly the Elks lodge, in order to expand its parking area to improve, in the words of the engineer, “access and maneuverability.” The existing building on that lot will be removed. The Rensselaer County Department of Health is offering blood testing for PFOA at no charge to Petersburgh residents. The clinic will be at the Petersburgh Veterans Community Center (PVMCC) In Petersburgh on Saturday, July 23 from 9 am to 2 pm. Please call 518-402-7950 for an appointment.
