The Berlin High School’s reentry into the sport of wrestling was a year marked by growing pains. When the season started with their first scrimmage at Hoosick Falls, they had nearly a full team and high hopes. By season’s end, they were down to just a few wrestlers, most having dropped out along the way. Now coach D.J. Connally and supporters are hoping to create a groundswell of support, between the Berlin and New Lebanon communities. Village Mayor David Borge has announced that the newly-installed carbon filtration system at the municipal water treatment plant is fully operational and Village officials have begun pumping water through the system and into the Village’s water system.
“This is a major step forward,” Borge said. “The State Department of Health informed the Village that it recommended the new facility begin operating and delivering treated water to the distribution system. Three weeks ago, New York State Police seized 16 dogs, including four puppies, from the Jay Hakes Road home of 83-year-old Ed Maxfield in Grafton. Troopers indicated they acted out of concern for the dogs, as night time temperatures then were 20 degrees below or better. The animals had been chained outside, and although well fed, lacked water because of the freezing temperatures.
