Petersburgh – Mildred (Millie) Brimmer Lapp went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2015. She was born on July 5, 1923 in Petersburgh to the late Edna Powers Brimmer and Forrest (Jack) Brimmer. She was educated in the Petersburgh District #4 School and graduated from the Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls in 1941. She married Donald William Lapp Sr. in 1943 and loved him for 62 years until his death in 2005. The American House on Elm Street was the subject of a Public Hearing on September 28 at Hoosick Village Hall. Building Inspector Mark Surdam has tracked down the owner, who had been located in Las Vegas, Nevada the last time there was correspondence with him; he now lives in Tel Aviv, Israel. After several certified letters to the owner had been returned unanswered, he finally responded. There were several emails back and forth, one of which informed the owner that he needed to come to the September 28 public hearing and show proof that the building does not need to be demolished, or the Village would take action. Surdam received an email from the property owner stating that he intended to “put it [the American House] back together,” but could not come to a public hearing to argue his case that the building is salvageable until November 28. On Saturday, October 24 a Public Archaeology Day will be held at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site in Walloomsac, NY off Route 67. The event is open to the general public and free of charge. Consultants with Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc. and NYS Parks employees will be on hand to share the history of the battle, provide demonstrations of both metal detecting and ground penetrating radar equipment as well as to discuss the future of the site.
