Walloomsac Fire Destroys Several Structures

An April 16 fire destroyed the barns and house of a property on State Route 67 in Walloomsac. The property, located just west of the Bennington Battlefield entrance on the south side of the road, had no immediately available constant water source. A hay barn and large pole barn were completely destroyed. The house, while still partially standing, appears to be a total loss.

HF Village Budget Includes Tax Increase of 1.5%

After the Public Hearing on the Village of Hoosick Falls 2015-2016 Budget last Tuesday the Board approved the budget, which includes a 1.5% property  tax increase. “This is a very lean budget,” said Mayor David Borge. “It’s an increase from a $3.2 million dollar budget to a $3.3 million dollar budget that includes insurance increases and a two percent increase for contracted services for union and non-union employees. A public hearing on a franchise agreement for cable services between New Lebanon and Charter Communications started off the monthly meeting of the New Lebanon Town Board on April 14.

HFCS Budget Set – A 2% Tax Levy Increase Is Expected

Hoosick Falls Central School District Board of Education approved their 2015-16 budget at their meeting on April 16, in the amount of $23,145,413

The budget-to-budget increase from this school year to next year’s budget is 2.9%, which increases the tax levy by 2%. This is below the maximum tax levy calculation, so it requires only a simple majority vote to pass. The District has come in below the tax cap limitation for three years running, ever since the law was put in place.

Granted Provisional Charter From NY Board Of Regents

BEHOLD! New Lebanon, the nation’s first living museum of contemporary rural American life, today announced that is has been awarded a $100,000 grant from The Educational Foundation of America. Its largest single donation to date, the grant will cover the development of new programming and other operational support for the museum, which kicks-off its first full season on July 4.
