At the start of the school season HFCS Government teacher Sara Kreiger contacted the Town of Hoosick Democratic and Republican committees to ask their Town Supervisor and Town Council candidates to participate in a forum where students would ask the candidates student created questions. The public would be invited to attend, but they would not be asking any questions. As the students regularly attend Town and Village Board meetings, they are familiar with the rudiments of local government. Similar forums have happened in the past but certainly not in recent years.

The Stephentown Firemen’s Muster

The annual Firemen’s Muster hosted by the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department began with Water Polo last Saturday evening. At 4 pm it was Junior Water Polo or the Kids competition. There were three age groups. With the youngest group especially, all suited up in adult turnout gear, it was a heroic effort to move, let alone control a fire hose. A Wood Pellet Boiler System Would Save HFCS Money

Hoosick Falls Superintendent of Schools Ken Facin presented to the Board an opportunity to switch the District’s heating plant to a new one fueled by wood pellets on advantageous terms. He said a company called BioEnergy Project Partners LLC (BPP) has secured grant funding from the NY State Energy Research and Development Authority, NYSERDA, to install wood pellet boilers at three sites. Everybody Gets Along In BCS Board Meetings

Berlin School Board meetings aren’t what they used to be, which was long, rambling and argumentative. Now they are over in little less than an hour. There is no arguing, and everyone seems to get along.
Tuesday’s meeting was just such an example of the new meeting style. The only real discussion came about in regards to how new technologies will be dealt with in the District.

Knuckleheads Reopens

A new restaurant that appeared in Stephentown last June, then closed after two weeks, has reopened. Knuckleheads restaurant, the red building on Route 22 near the intersection with Route 43, opened again on Thursday, September 26.

June I. McInerney
Hoosick Falls – June I. McInerney, 91, of 27 Mechanic Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. Born June 7, 1922, in Vly Summit, NY, she was the daughter of Raymond and Emma O. (Brown) Allen. June was the wife of the late Gerard V. McInerney of Cambridge, NY.
Survivors include a son, Terry A. Kelley of Troy, a sister Dolores (Skiff) Grover of Troy, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as nephews and nieces.
Services were held Monday, September 23, at the Stump Church Cemetery in Cambridge with the Rev. George H. Orlemann of Cambridge officiating.
Arrangements were under the guidance of the New Comer Cannon Funeral Home in Colonie, NY.

Brian Holloway said he expects there will be arrests made following the vandalizing of his home in Stephentown on Saturday, August 31. The former New England Patriots football star said he is leaving that up to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department. He is more concerned that the community and especially the parents of those involved take a firm stand and see to it that responsibility is acknowledged so that the young lives of the miscreants can be turned around.

Storm Over Hoosick Falls

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department responds to 120 calls a year on average. On Thursday, September 12, they responded to ten percent of the calls they receive all year. “We’ve been watching these (thunder and lightning) storms all summer,” said Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Carlton Coon. “Most of them went all around us, but Thursday it was right on top of us.” [Read more…] about Storm Over Hoosick Falls
