Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade Fun And Fundraiser

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade Committee will host a fundraiser on Saturday, February 9, from 1 to 4 pm at the Sandbar in Hoosick Falls. The event will feature demonstrations and competitions of Irish Road Bowling, the Irish Stew Cook-Off, a potato bar and the Irish Cocktail Contest.

Grafton School Of Fish

In an interview after Monday night’s Grafton Planning Board meeting, Planning Board Chairman Tom Withcuskey was excited by the prospect that there seems to be a buyer for the Grafton Elementary School property. A local contractor, from Williamstown, who Withcuskey believes employs about 100 people in his construction business, wants to develop a fish farm on the 15.3 acre site. HFFD Annual Banquet And Installation Of Officers

On Saturday evening, January 26, the Hoosick Falls Fire Department held its Annual Banquet and Installation of Officers at the Firehouse. The dinner was catered by Jean’s Place in North Hoosick. The Invocation and Benediction were given by Rev. Dale Hall of the Hoosick Baptist Church. Music was provided by Matthew Shaw.

The Stephentown Library May Become A Special Legislative District – Vote Is In March

Stephentown residents get to vote in March on whether they want to set up a Special Legislative District for the Stephentown Memorial Library. The Library is currently an Association library, basically a non-profit private enterprise. As a Special Legislative District public library its budget would be directly funded by tax dollars approved by a Town vote, similar to the way the Fire District is funded. Town residents would elect the trustees and vote on any budget increase. Budget increases would also be subject to the 2% State cap requiring 60% of the voters to override.

HFCS Terminates DiMaggio

The Hoosick Falls School board voted unanimously to “terminate Kathleen DiMaggio as cheerleading advisor,” effective January 7, 2013. There was no Board discussion in the meeting about why this action was taken, and Superintendent Ken Facin said after the meeting that he is not allowed to comment publicly on personnel matters.

Boy Scout Troop 222 Brave Cold In The Klondike Derby And Freeze Out 2013

Ten Scouts  from Troop 222 set out in two sleds on January 26 at the Rotary Scout Reservation located in Poestenkill in temps hovering around 8°F all day. The Scouts tested their scouting skills against other troops in the Mahakin District of the Twin Rivers Council of the BSA in winter team building activities.
