The Town of Stephentown is the proud owner of a new road grader. The Town Board met in special meeting on April 5 to open bids for the new machine.
Two bids were received, one from Monroe Tractor in Latham for a Case grader, with immediate delivery, in the amount of $161,408, with $15,000 allotted for trading in the Town’s old grader. With a five-year extended warranty for $8,060, the total came to $154,468.

Hoosick Falls Is Third In Water Taste Test
Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has announced the winner of this year’s Water Taste Test Contest as the Village of Nassau. The Village will now compete in the regional Water Taste Test Contest to be held later on this summer. The Town of Schodack came in second, the Village of Hoosick Falls third and the City of Troy Public Water Supply placed forth in the annual contest. Over 100 individuals participated in the contest by choosing their favorite and second favorite tasting water.

A Celebration Of Life For Elizabeth S. “Betts” Miller
New Lebanon – Elizabeth “Betts” Steele Miller, 82, of New Lebanon, NY, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington, MA, after a hip fracture in October of 2008 and resulting long illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 10, at 11am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 20, New Lebanon. Relatives and friends are invited to the Church to greet the family starting at 10 am. Private interment will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Meeting On Rensselaer Plateau Legacy Area Is Packed

DEC officials are convinced that designating the Rensselaer Plateau as a Forest Legacy Area would make good environmental and economic sense. Representatives from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) presented their proposal Before a packed audience of about 150 people at Tamarac School last Wednesday, March 24. New Life For The Elks Club Building In Hoosick Falls

Terry McGuire, owner of Artistic Hair Designs has always wanted to open a spa in Hoosick Falls. “It’s been a dream for a long time,” she said. “And when opportunity knocks, you take advantage of it, because it doesn’t knock twice in the same spot.” Business partner Kimberly Revet began operating Nirvana Day Spa from Terry’s building a year ago. The atmosphere at the neat brick Elm St. location is warm, friendly… and crowded. The two women had been talking for some time about finding a new location. “I’m tired of looking out my window and seeing crumbling buildings with broken windows and graffiti,” said Terry. So, when the two learned the price of the Elks Club on Church St. had been drastically reduced, they jumped at the chance to purchase it. The purchase price was $38,500.

All-County Concert Held At BCS

On Saturday March 27, Rensselaer County’s finest student musicians performed at the Berlin High School. The annual Rensselaer All-County Concert, which had representatives from thirteen area schools, featured an elementary band, junior chorus, jazz chorus and senior band. For hundreds of yards, both sides of Route 22 were lined with vehicles. Those in attendance were treated to a series of well performed classical and contemporary musical works.
