Main Roads Closed – A State Of Emergency Declared

An estimated three to five inches of rainfall on Wednesday caused widespread flooding and road closures in northern Columbia County and southern Rensselaer County. A state of emergency was declared Wednesday evening in the towns of Stephentown, Nassau and New Lebanon, with travel being limited to emergency vehicles and immediate area residents.

Lohnes Pleads Not Guilty; Case Will Go To Trial

Michael Lohnes was arraigned before a Grand Jury on Thursday, July 23, on a four count indictment. The charges were burglary in the third degree, aggravated assault on an animal, cruelty to animals and criminal mischief. He pled not guilty. The theme this year of the 4th Annual Rock Rattle and Drum Powwow and Spirit On The Mountain Music Festival, to be held at Gardner’s Field in Stephentown on August 7, 8 and 9, is “America – Fly Like an Eagle, Forever Free – Honoring our Veterans, Healing Our Warriors.” Besides being an important Native American festival, it is shaping up to be a significant event honoring and serving veterans of all sorts.

Richard Burns, New Lebanon Central High School Class of 1949, was dismayed a few years back at the low turnouts for the annual Alumni Reunion Dinners. In 2005 he said that of all those who had graduated over the years only 57 showed up for the Reunion. “You could hear an echo in the room,” he said. Something had to be done. Gladioli Are Back In Berlin

After our successful planting of one bed of gladioli in 2008, the local reaction to the beauty of the August flowers was so positive that we (Beautification of Berlin Committee) raised money from individuals and businesses in the Berlin community and surrounding areas to continue the project of lining the Route 22 corridor through Berlin with beds of gladioli… a symbolic representation of the original 19th and early 20th century displays of gladioli for which our town was renowned nationally.
