Friday August 25, 1854: Today Daniel Millard sent a constable from Berlin to serve a summons on Geo P., MIllard says for doging his cow. Geo P. was not to home and the writ was not served. Today Geo P. fetched his wife to my house for the first after being confined and they both stayed tonight.

Monday, August 7, 1854: Today about noon Geo P. had a daughter born but Doctor Bates did not get there in time. This afternoon I rode up to get the widow Verona Holcomb to nurse Geo P’s wife but she was gone to Poestenkill. I returned and Geo P. got the widow Rodgers. Today John F. and Michael and Thomas mowed on my Rodgers farm.

Wednesday July 26, 1854: I and Michael Lynch and Thomas dug potatoes. John F. hand is lame, he does not work.
Thursday: I and Thomas plowed a little with my horse and I sowed turnip. John F. went with his two horse team to Pittsfield with 12 bushel potatoes at one dollar to Barker’s factory.

Tuesday: John F. is unwell and did not hoe. Today a severe hot weather and we hear of some being sun stroked. Today John F. carried his 50 young sheep at one dollar and 63 cts per head and had 10 dollars in advance to Mr.    from Nassau.
Friday: I and Thomas hoed on the hill and finished hoeing potatoes, John F. did not hoe, he was unwell.

Friday, June 23, 1854:  Some rainy. Our corn sheller being broken, Geo P. fetched us J.B. Maxon sheller and at night John F. carried it home and paid 25 cts for the use of it. Today John F. unwell and Thomas helped me shell corn. My wife unwell.
Saturday: John F. went with his youngest horse to Guy Moffitt’s to get information how to doctor his horse knee joint, and today I charged John Merrils for a hen 25 cts and 31 cts for half a bushel of potatoes.

Thursday, June 8, 1854: Today John F. rode to Berlin with one of his young horses in the wagon, he went to Mr.      and bought a new two horse harness and paid 29 dollars and Geo P. went with him and paid 35 dollars for a cow and a calf to one Mr. Green.

Tuesday May 23, 1854: Today I tended to chores. I am quite lame. This evening after I had got to bed, an Irishman, a stranger, came by the name of Linsley and his son a boy 17 years of age by the name of Thomas, he made a conditional bargain with John F. for his son Thomas to work for us for 5 months at 9½ dollars per month and do chores on Sunday and husk corn evenings, and is to work the term of time mentioned providing both parties is suited.

Thursday: Today I took my horse and wagon and carried my wife and Geo P.’s wife to Hancock Union Store to trade. My second sow had pigs.

Tuesday, April 4, 1854: I went to Election  to the house of Mr. Mason what is called Hiram Brown’s old stand and Randal A. Brown was elected supervisor over James W. Glass, the whig candidate. I paid six cts to Wm. L. Brown’s store for maple sugar.
