Thursday, March 16, 1854: Today Capt. Tanner the butcher and his brother Benj. Tanner, they came and I sold them  a steer  and heifer that was stall fed that was John F.’s, he was gone to R. A. Brown’s store to return boosums that my family made for him. Said Tanner paid 57 dol and 50 cts for said fat cattle. Today Geo P. walked to Pittsfield to look at working oxen to buy but he did not buy any.
Saturday: I am quite lame. Today quite snow squally.

Wednesday, February 22, 1854: Today Geo P. and wife went to Berlin to temperance meeting and then he drove his four cows home that he left last week, for it was icy — them, he paid Mr. Hull three dollars for keeping them. One of said cows had two calves last Sunday and his wife drove the wagon and fetched said calves.

Friday, February 3, 1854: My two sons drew each a load of ice from Conklin mill pond, and Geo P. slipped into the water and wet him bad, it being quite cold day.
Saturday: John F. took his horse and wagon and carried our carrot seed to the Church family of the Shakers to have cleaned but they would not clean it and he fetched it home again. Today Mr. King from Canaan came to look at John F. fat cattle but did not bargain, he took dinner with us.

Monday, January 16, 1854: John F. went to Pittsfield with my horse and lumber wagon and carried 12½ bushels of apples and a quarter of his beef and sold at 5½ dollars per hundred and sold the apples at 75 cts per bushel. He had three dollars for his share of the apples and I had six dollars for my share of the apples.

Friday, January 6, 1854: I went with my one horse wagon and carried Russel Palmer five bushel turnips which makes eight bushel which pays him up for cutting my sausage meat 52 pounds and 20 pounds of the widow Eliza Wylie’s. I rode up to Daniel Himes and had 4 saws sharpened and set 42 cts, and I called in to Palmer Barnes shop and got a few shavings to kindle fire in my stoves. There I met with Wm. Dot the Town Collector and paid my tax which was 11 dollars and 86 cents and I paid Geo P.’s tax, 2 dol and 11 cts, and Geo P. paid me when I returned home. Friday December 16, 1853: Today I began to look over accounts with Allen Bartlett, but I fetched the wrong book, I made a mistake. He says his account is 51 dol and 11 cts against me. John F. fetched a load tan bark from Mr. Mason Tannery to Geo P. for his Ice house.

Friday, November 11, 1853: I carried Palmer Barnes three bushels turnips at 25 cts per and I reckoned with said Palmer Barnes and found that he owed me forty one cents and he gave me a due bill and receit. I took dinner with him and I carried the blacksmith Hines five bushel carrots and three bushels turnips and he credits me two dollars for the whole. I called to Russel Palmer’s to sell a beef but I did not see him.

Tuesday, September 20, 1853: This morning I paid our fare in the stage from Utica to Sequoit in New Hartford for us two 75 cts. I made a mistake, rode two miles to Clayville, paid 12 cts back to Sequoit, left the stage, walked half a mile to Geo Greenlief’s, took dinner and towards night his wife took their team and carried us two to brother John Campbell’s, I gave her little son as a present 25 cts.
