Monday, August 22, 1853: John F. continues lame with boils. Today Russel Palmer bought six sheep at 15 dollars and paid nine and owes six dollars.
Tuesday, August 30: Today John F. went to Pittsfield with one and a half bushel plums, one bushel apples and five small cheeses and a pail of butter. He got about ten dollars for the whole. Today while John F. was to Pittsfield he trusted his suncle F. Jay Wylie for two small cheeses. They weighed 18½ pounds at seven cts per pound, which was 1.29 cts.

Tuesday, August 9, 1853: I and Patrick dug potatoes, Louisa Merrils came a spell this morning and picked up potatoes but would not mind and pick up the small ones and I dismissed her. Today Geo P. took John F. horse and carried John F. to Canaan Depot to take the cars for New York to see what the market was for new potatoes and Geo P. returned from Canaan to New Lebanon Shakers and bargained with the North Family to buy their nursery grafted fruit at ten dollars per hundred and they help him take said trees up next April.

Tuesday: July 26, 1853: Rainy. Today John F. went to Pittsfield with my horse and wagon and carried seven bushels new potatoes and sold them at 50 cts per.
Wednesday: I and Patrick dug potatoes and Mr. J. McFeelie dug 3/4 of a day and then it rained. Today John F. went to Lebanon with my horse and wagon and carried old potatoes and sold where they are to work on the railroad near the gate. He sold them at 25 cts per bushel.

Thursday, June 30, 1853: Today John F. and Patrick hoed potatoes on the hill above the woods and this afternoon P. hoed beans on the hill and Geo P. hoed his potatoes in the same lot, John Marrils and an Irishman hoed for him, and Geo P. went over the hill to C. Moffit’s store, he was supoened as jury on a liquor court but it was adjourned. He returned to his work.

Tuesday, April 5, 1853: I went to R.A. Brown’s to town meeting and said R. A. Brown was elected supervisor. I voted for him. Joseph Tayer ran opposition on the Whig ticket. Today a hard snow storm. John F. did not go to town meeting.

Wednesday, March 30, 1853: I this forenoon walked up to Geo P.’s Maxon house and carried a looking glass, and Geo P. and wife went up there this forenoon and put up some of their goods, and this afternoon Charlotte E. and Sarah O. went up with them this afternoon and helped put down their carpets and fix other things. I continue quite lame.

Monday, March 21, 1853: I rode with John F. to Elisha Broad’s to the funeral of his grandfather, Amos Broad, the Reverend Mr. Day preached and Geo P. chopped to the door up to his Maxon house and his wife cleaned house and put up her furniture and Charlotte E. and Sarah O. helped her. I lent Philander Hatch 40 dol on interest for one year.
