Friday, April 25, 1851: Geo P returned home from Windsor selling trees. He paid 80 dollars for six year old pair oxen and drove home. John F. quite unwell with lame side.

Geo P.’s Nursery Business Takes Off

Wednesday, April 16, 1851: High winds and some rain. I am unwell and lame. Today John F. and A. Celinbalm took the banking from the house and this afternoon John F. walked over to Doctor Dickerson and got part of his school money.

Thursday: Today Geo P. went with the two horse wagon, he went with my horse and Hiram Newton’s horse and went to Berlin and Petersburgh and Hoosic and carried 660 trees of grafted to sell. This afternoon made steps to the south door.

Friday: This forenoon I laid up wall and rail fence on Wm B. Maxon’s farm and John F. plowed sward on said farm and in the afternoon John F. planted potatoes on said farm.

Saturday: This foenoon John F. planted potatoes on Wm B. Maxon’s farm. I this afternoon went to Philander Hatches raising a barn. This evening Geo P. returned home from selling out a load of grafted trees of 660 of three days up as far as Hoosic and sold one hundred and thirty dollars and got pay down 80 dollars for eleven bushels of early June potatoes in Hoosic.

Monday: I walked to Lebanon and paid 15 cts for three letters to N. Nichols post office, one for Geo P. and my two daughters each a letter and two cts for a vial ink. Tonight Mr. Ford from Windsor stayed with us with a two horse team, he came to carry a load of apple trees for Geo P.

Tuesday: I this forenoon mended fence on my Rodgers farm, and John F., and J. Bassett and A. Celinbaum worked on said farm. Today Geo P. went with my one horse wagon and horse and Daniel Collins and Mr. Ford they all went and carried loads of apple trees to Windsor.

Wednesday: John F. and his two sisters rode to Lebanon Store, they carried  ten dozen eggs to Gay’s store and John F. sold a fore quarter veal for cash, four cts per. I sent and got five sts vitrial and six cents for salt peter. Today J. Bassett set out seed turnips and tagged my twenty sheep and he put vitrial vinegar spirits turpentine and saltpeter on my sheep feet.

Thursday: Today Colonel Richard Spencer came with Colonel Knowlson son and took dinner with us and then John F. and John Bassett went with them to Geo P. nursery and young Knowlson paid 18 cts apiece for 80 apple trees.

Friday: This forenoon John F. rode to Hancock and carried three quarters veal, one quarter to Bartlett, 15 pounds at five cts per, and one to Gustus Landon, 15 pounds at five cts per, and one fore quarter to Grind, 18 pounds at four cts per, and charge them on account.

Ross’s Lawyers Pay Charlotte’s Judgment

Tuesday, April 1, 1851: I and John F. got out a load manure on the garden and planted a part of the garden. This afternoon I and John F. rode up to Lathumville to town meeting and we returned to Nicholas Gardner’s and took tea. I then fetched my wife home. Geo P. left her there this morning on a visit and he went to town meeting.

Sudden Death

Friday March 16, 1851: This evening John F. rode up to Hiram Newton’s and got our syringe for Frederick Russel, for his son Franklin is dangerous sick and tonight my two daughters and son John F. stayed to said Russel’s.

Saturday: This morning Franklin Russell died about four o’clock. I got there a few minutes after he died. Today Geo P. and Jane Wylie rode to Lebanon store to get grave clothes and tonight Geo P. watched to Mr. Russel’s. This afternoon I and John F. got a load of wood from off the hill.

Sunday: I and all my family went to the funeral of John F. Russell to the house of Mr. John Russell, Elder Nathaniel Sweet preached.

Monday: Today Westalo Rodgers worked for me to put down the kitchen floor and I worked with him. John drew manure and this afternoon he got manure on the Widow Wylie’s farm.

Tuesday: I worked with Westalo Rodgers putting down kitchen floor. Today John F. went to Hancock and carried corn in the ear for Geo P. from the widow Freelove Wylie’s and left to be ground. Today Allen Spencer was shot by accident by his son shooting rats. He died instantly.

Wednesday: I worked with Westalo Rodgers at the kitchen and stoop and repairing the doors, and tonight I paid said Rodgers for his three days works three dollars and 37 cents and this forenoon John F. went to Lebanon to mill for Alexander Celinbaum in the way of changing works and he ditched for us this afternoon. This forenoon A. Celinbaum drew five wagonloads of my manure on his garden with our team.

Thursday: I drew stone to fill into a blind ditch in the young orchard on the hill and John ditched and Alexander Celinbaum ditched this forenoon in the way of changing works.

Friday: Tonight Geo P. returned home from Windsor engaging apple trees and one Mr. Ford was coming to buy corn and fetched Geo P. and stayed with us tonight with a two horse team. Today Colonel Allen Spencer was buried and the funeral ceremonies were performed by the free Masons or in the Masonic order.

Cutting Timber For The Saw Mill

Saturday, March 15, 1851: I this forenoon washed out my tenant house that is near J. M. Glass and this afternoon I drew a load manure on the garden. A New Tenant & Repairs To The Tenant House

Monday, March 3, 1851: Today one Mr.    from New Lebanon came and bargained to pay 15 dol for my house and garden that is near James M. Glass and I agreed to pay him 13 dollars per month for four months to work the four first days in each week. He came in company with Mr. Bassett, Geo P’s hired man and they both took dinner to my house.

Midwinter, Severe Cold

Thursday, January 30. 1851: This forenoon I and Geo P. went with ox team two miles into Lebanon to Salmon Owens meadow and got a sled load hay that Geo P. had in the stack that he paid said Owens 24 dollars in cash for the grass. Today a severe cold day, I froze my ears going after the hay.
