Youth 2 Youth Berlin will be hosting a holiday teen event on Friday, December 14, at the Berlin Middle School/High School from 7 to 10 pm. Berlin Youth 2 Youth has planned a night with DJ, dancing, games, Wii, prizes and raffles and other activities planned.
Tickets cost $3 in advance, $5 at the door, and include snacks and beverage; pizza will be available to purchase. The History Of Berlin’s Dutch Church Will Be Presented At The Stephentown Historical Society Meeting
The Stephentown Historical Society will hold its holiday potluck dinner on Monday, December 3, at 6:30 pm at the Stephentown Heritage Center, Garfield Road (County Route 26) in Stephentown. Officers and Board Members will be elected at the brief business meeting. Sharon Klein will give an illustrated talk on the history of Berlin’s Dutch Church after the dinner. Berlin Fire Auxiliary Tree Lighting
Come Join the community for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting sponsored by the Berlin Fire Auxiliary on December 2 at 4:30 pm in the Berlin Fire House parking lot. There will be caroling and holiday music.
This festive event is free and open to the public. There will be refreshments in the Fire House following ceremony. Please bring a non-perishable item for the food pantry.

Berlin Town Board Action, Part Two – Bridges

At the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, November 8, not all the highway talk was about buying the new truck which was reported last week. Highway Superintendent Jim Winn also informed the meeting that the bridge on Satterlee Hollow Road had been red flagged. By the Thursday of the meeting Winn had already had the bridge repaired, and the red flag was removed. The ibeams under the bridge decking “were getting bad” so metal plates and poured concrete were put under them by Dave Goodermote Construction. Winn added that the Department is getting ready for winter and is finishing patching, having recently just done some patching on Cherry Plain Square.

Open House At The Berlin Library
The Board of Trustees cordially invites the public to the Berlin Free Town Library Holiday Open House. The open house will be at the Library on Saturday, December 1, from 4 to 6 pm. Dunn Memorial Bridge Presentation At The Poestenkill Historical Society
The Poestenkill Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, November 27, at 7 pm in the Poestenkill Town Hall (Rte. 351). This November’s program will feature Mark Bodner as guest speaker. Bodner has done much historical research on the Dunn Memorial Bridge, officially known as the Private Parker F. Dunn Memorial Bridge.

Berlin Budget Sets Tax Levy Increase At 2.3%

At their regular meeting on Thursday, November 8, the Berlin Town Board voted unanimously, 4-0, to adopt the 2013 budget with a 2.3% tax levy increase. Board Member John Winn was absent having been called to duty by his employer, the State Highway Department. The increase complies with the State mandated 2% tax increase cap which allows for a “tax base growth factor,” based on the inflation rate calculated by the State, and “the tax levy necessary for pension contribution expenditures caused by growth in the [pension] system average… in excess of 2%.” [Read more…] about Berlin Budget Sets Tax Levy Increase At 2.3%
Troop 222 Wreath Fundraiser
Boy Scout Troop 222 out of Petersburgh will be holding a fundraiser selling Christmas Wreaths on Sunday, November 18, at two Stewart’s locations locally. The Scouts will be at the Stewart’s at the corner of Rts. 22 and 7 in Hoosick and at the Stewart’s in Berlin from 9 am to 2 pm. The Scouts from Troop 222 will have an assortment of wreathes starting at $20 each for sale. Orders can also be placed directly with the Scoutmaster, Jim Akers, at 518-728-0352.
