Charles E. Oswald – Burial Notice

Berlin – A cremation burial service will be held for Charles E. Oswald on October 7, 2012, at 1:30 pm at the Center Berlin Cemetery in Berlin, NY. Charles was son of the late John E. Oswald and the late Mary Elizabeth Teal Goodermote. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Richard E. Oswald, and his sister, Marjorie A. Stowell. He is survived by his siblings, Robert A. Oswald of Cherry Plain, NY, and Linda E. Goodermote of Dallas, GA, and by his seven sons.

Shirley And Ivan Wager Honored For Years Of Service

Shirley and Ivan Wager appeared a bit overwhelmed by the standing ovation given them at the conclusion of a ceremony that included the presentation of plaques and certificates from the U.S. Congress, the NYS Senate and Assembly, Rensselaer County, the Town of Berlin and several Firefighting organizations. In expressing his appreciation to the large crowd gathered at the Berlin Fire House on Saturday, September 22, Ivan Wager told them Shirley’s thoughts on their years of service. Berlin Town Board Action, Part Two – How To Replace The Berlin Bank Of America

The Town of Berlin is changing willy-nilly. At the Town Board meeting on Thursday, September 13, the future of the Watipi Building was discussed. This was followed by an open discussion at the end of the meeting concerning the recent news that the Bank of America is leaving Berlin. Berliners expressed their disappointment with Bank of America. Jim Anders asked Jaeger if there was any interest by another bank in taking over the BoA building and services. Jaeger said he had made some calls. Berlin F.D. Fresh Maine Lobster Dinner

A fresh Maine lobster dinner will be served at the Berlin Firehouse on Saturday, October 13, from 6 to 8 pm. Take-outs are available from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. There are advance ticket sales only, and the reservation deadline is Tuesday, October 9.
You may reserve single lobster dinners for $19 or twin lobster dinners for $27. The dinners include lobster(s) with melted butter, baked potato, salad, roll, ice cream and beverage.

Berlin Youth 2 Youth Teen Event

Youth 2 Youth Berlin will be hosting its kickoff event for the school year on Friday, October 5, at the Berlin Middle School/High School from 7 to 10 pm. Berlin Teens have planned a night of games, music, dancing, Wii and other activities (including Ride that Pony!).
Tickets cost $3 in advance and $5 at the door and include snacks and beverage. Tickets can be pre-ordered through the Y2Y Berlin Group, Biffy Cahill, the Main Office at the Berlin Middle/High School and the Stephentown Memorial Library.

Berlin Town Board Action – What For The Watipi

The future of the Watipi Building as a Town property may be in doubt. The Town Board discussed the possibility of divesting the Town of it at the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, September 13. Berlin Fall Rabies Clinic

A Rabies Clinic will be held on Thursday, October 25, at the Berlin Highway Garage on Route 22 in Berlin. All rabies vaccines, dog-DHLPP vaccines and cat-FURCP vaccines cost $10 each; cash only! Cats will be treated from 6 to 7 pm, dogs from 7 to 8 pm. Call Doug Goodermote at 658-3308 if you have questions.

Fabulous Fall-Out Car & Bike Show

The Berlin Ladies Auxiliary will present its Seventh Annual Fabulous Fall-Out Car & Bike Show on September 29 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Berlin Firehouse located at 11 Community Avenue in Berlin. All cars and motorcycles are welcome! There will be vendors and crafters for shopping. Again this year, one of our vendors is Party of Gold. Bring your broken earrings, gold, silver and platinum jewelry, coins, tableware, etc. and take home a pocketful of money! Good food and homemade desserts will be available.
Vendor tables cost $20 – bring your own table. Vehicle entry is $10 on the day of show. The rain date is September 30. If you have questions, call 518-658-2163.

East Poestenkill – Bertram P. Goodermote, 69, of Plank Road, East Poestenkill, NY, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, NY. Bert was born on the family farm in East Poestenkill and resided there his entire life. Bert was the son of the late Jesse and Esther Milhizer Goodermote and the husband of Elaine Johnson Goodermote.
