Bly Hollow Brewery, LLC, will have its Grand Opening on Saturday, September 1, from 2 to 6 pm at 243 Bly Hollow Road, Cherry Plain. The opening of this ‘nano’ size brewery (smaller than micro) will feature live music and tastings of seven different styles of beer, along with an opportunity for all to barter or sell their local goods and garden produce. The public is expected.

Palmer On Dean’s List Paul Smith’s College
Llewellyn Palmer of Berlin has been named to the Dean’s List at Paul Smith’s College for the spring 2012 semester. Palmer, who majors in parks, recreation and facilities management, earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher to receive this distinction.
At Paul Smith’s College, it’s about the experience. The College, which is on the shores of Lower St. Regis Lake, is the only four year institution of higher education in the 6 million acre Adirondack Park. Our programs, in fields including hospitality, culinary arts, forestry, natural resources, entrepreneurship, the sciences and many others draw on industries and resources available in our own backyard while preparing students for successful careers anywhere.

Following approval by the Berlin Town Board in July and subsequent approval by the Town’s insurance carrier, Our Valley Community Farmers’ Market (OVCFM) now sets up in the parking lot of the Town’s Highway Garage on Route 22 in Berlin from 11 am until 2 pm on Sundays.

Berlin – Peter Rontey passed away on August 18, 2012, at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Born in 1952 in Hartford, CT, Peter served in the Air Force and graduated from American International College in Springfield, MA, Central Michigan University and Westfield State University in Westfield, MA. He worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a software engineer where he pioneered the development of a workbench tool used in the health information technology standard, HL7.

Having successfully passed the mantle of the most dysfunctional town board in eastern Rensselaer County to candidate boards in neighboring towns, the Berlin Town Boarding meeting on Thursday, August 9, was another breezy and brief meeting with no debate and no disagreements. Curiously, for the third meeting in a row not a word was mentioned about the closing of the Berlin Lumber property, which the Town Board voted in January to purchase for use as a municipal center. Taconic Valley Historical Society – Covered Bridges
American wooden covered bridges will be the topic of discussion at the Taconic Valley Historical Society meeting on Monday, August 20, at 7:30 pm at the Berlin Methodist Church, South Main Street, Berlin. The evening will feature a presentation by Lloyd Schiesser of Poestenkill. Schiesser will discuss the history of American wooden covered bridges and their construction. The program is free and open to the public.
Berlin Library News
The Berlin Free Town Library announces its annual Book and Bake Sale. The Book and Bake Sale will take place at the Library on Saturday, August 25, from 9 am to 1 pm. The Library Board asks for your support through donations of new or gently used books and items for the bake sale. Book donations should be made by August 20. Baked goods should be brought to the Library the morning of the sale. Cash donations will be happily accepted at any time. Please support the Berlin Free Town Library.
Former Berliner Installed As American Legion Auxiliary Department President
Sally Johnston is a 26 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her eligibility is through her step-father Arthur (Niles) Jones who served during WW II and was a life time member of the Taconic Valley Post #937 in Berlin. A. Niles Jones was an upstanding business man in the Town of Berlin where he owned and operated a liquid propane gas business for many years. She joined the Unit after his passing and vowed to devote her time and efforts to the American Legion Auxiliary and its programs serving the Veterans from that point on.
