The Berlin Free Town Library announces its annual Book and Bake Sale. What could be better than a sweet treat and a stack of books to read? The Book and Bake Sale will take place at the Library on Saturday, August 25, from 9 am to 1 pm. The Library Board asks for your support through donations of new or gently used books and items for the bake sale.

Berlin Commemorates The 1962 Disaster

“You can’t go through a crisis in a community without sticking together,” in the words of NY State Senator Roy McDonald. He was one of the speakers at the Berlin Fire Hall on Saturday at a commemorative observance of the 1962 disaster that burned much of the town. “Nobody’s an island,” McDonald said, “whether it’s a small personal problem or a major catastrophe. Community is what it’s all about. Thank you for your service and for your love of your community.”

Taconic Valley Post American Legion Auxiliary Ice Cream Social
The Taconic Valley Post of the American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring an ice cream social on August 11 from 4 to 5 pm at the Watipi Building on Community Avenue in Berlin. There will be free ice cream sundaes for everyone.
The Taconic Valley American Legion Auxiliary is a volunteer organization whose profits from fund raising goes back to our local veterans, their families and the rehabilitation program at the Sam Stratton VA Medical Center. There are no administrative charges.

The Taconic Valley Soccer Club is accepting Fall registrations for kindergarten through grade six. The registration fee is $35. The TVSC will waive any late fees at this time. Farmers Market Coupons At The Grafton Senior Center
Farmers Market Coupons are available at the Everett Wagar Senior Center in Grafton. Coupons will be distributed at the Senior Center. You must come in to the Center to receive your coupons. Area Students Graduate From The State University Of New York At Potsdam
The State University of New York at Potsdam awarded more than 920 undergraduate and graduate degrees during its 2012 Commencement ceremonies on May 19 and 20. SUNY Potsdam honored upwards of 750 students with bachelor’s degrees, while another 170 graduate students earned their master’s at the College’s Commencement weekend.
The graduates included Matthew Hartnett of Berlin, who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and Nicholas Paine of Petersburgh, who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics.
A Memorial Service For Irene B. Greene
Berlin – Irene Brownell Greene, 91, of Greene’s Brook Road, Berlin, NY, passed away on Friday, July 13, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, at 11 am in the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church on North Main Street in Berlin where Rev. Matthew Olson will officiate. A Time of Fellowship will follow the service. Contributions in memory of Irene may be given to either the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church or to the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls in care of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, P.O. Box 361, Petersburgh, NY, 12138.
