Harold H. Burdick

Berlin – Harold H. Burdick, 77, of Brunswick Road, Troy, NY, died on Monday, July 16, 2012, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY, after a long illness.
Born in Berlin, NY, on February 23, 1935, he was the son of the late Loren and Julia Jones Burdick. He had lived on Brunswick Road in Troy since 1999 when he moved from the Berlin/Petersburgh area. Harold attended Berlin schools. He worked for Rynard Gundrum crushing cars and as a lathe operator for W. J. Cowee Co., Inc. in Berlin. He retired in 2001. He loved going to tag sales and was a practical joker, always playing jokes on his family and friends.

The Berlin July Fourth Parade Prize Winners

The Parade was one of the biggest in recent history and was well attended, bringing families, friends and communities together in spirited celebration. As the Parade came to an end, The Hill Hollow Band provided entertainment outside the Berlin firehouse while Parade participants and spectators alike enjoyed some social time.

150 Years Of The Old Dutch Church

Immigrant families from the town of Dahlherda in Bavaria, Germany, founded the Dutch Church on Berlin’s West Mountain 150 years ago in 1862.
On Sunday, July 15, at 2 pm an Anniversary and Memorial Service will be held at the site of the Dutch Church and Cemetery.  The site is at the intersection of County Routes 42 and 41 (Dutch Church Road) with Bly Hollow Road and Miller Road in the Town of Berlin.  The public is invited.

50th Anniversary Of The Berlin Explosion

In memory of the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Explosion, a series of slides, prepared by Bill Reynolds, and pictures/newspaper articles assembled by Mrs. Sharon Klein, Berlin Town Historian, will be presented at the July 16 meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society.  Meetings are held at the Methodist Church, South Main Street, Berlin, the third Monday of each month at 7:30 pm. The programs are free and open to the public. Please join us.

Rev. Matthew Olson Named Grand Marshal of 2012 Berlin July 4th Parade

The Berlin 4th of July Parade Committee is pleased to announce that Rev. Matthew Olson, pastor of the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church, has been chosen to serve as Grand Marshal for this year’s Independence Day parade to be held on Wednesday, July 4, at 11 am.

Macabre Doings On Bly Hollow Road

This spring some perverse person or persons nailed 13 Barbie Dolls to utility poles on Bly Hollow Road in Cherry Plain. The dolls, all female, all new, were nailed through their belly buttons about seven feet up the poles. Two of the dolls were black, and one of the black dolls had its legs cut off. The dolls were noticed by Stephanie Hindes, who lives with her husband Mike and her two black daughters, one in a wheelchair, near the top of Bly Hollow Road. Mrs. Hindes reported this apparently cruel and threatening act to the State Police.

Berlin Library To Celebrate July 4th

A delicious fundraiser will take place at the Berlin Free Town Library on the Fourth of July. The Library will host the Pie à la Mode Café from 10 am to 1 pm.
Donations of pies and other baked goods will be accepted the morning of the Parade. The Library Board calls on its members and friends of the Library to donate baked goods to eat on the spot or carry out.
Stop by the Library lawn before, during or after the Parade to enjoy a sweet treat and help support the library.
