Berlin – Laura M. Perez Hill gently entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at her home in Berlin, NY. Born in Guanica, Puerto Rico, on November 10, 1929, Laura was the daughter of Eduardo Perez Seda and Maria Acosta. She attended elementary and high school in Guanica and earned a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Puerto Rico in 1952.

Berlin – Robert F. Saunders, 86, of Route 22, Berlin, NY, died on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, MA, where he had been a resident for four years.
Born July 29, 1925, in Berlin, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Allene Maine Saunders. He was the husband of Elizabeth Bentley Saunders.

Valley Community Farmers Market Meeting
Our Valley Community Farmers Market (OVCFM) will hold its first meeting of the 2012 season on April 17 at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church (North Main Street). Anyone interested in knowing more about the market – especially those interested in vending – is encouraged to attend. The meeting will include a discussion of OVCFM’s Market Handbook and policies, answer questions about New York State and Rensselaer County regulations, move toward creating a Market Committee and review community involvement.

Berlin Library News – Plant Sale
The Berlin Free Town Library announces the Mother’s Day Plant Sale Fundraiser. Plants for sale will all be in 4 inch pots. Plant prices are $6 for African violets, $7 for kalanchoe and $8 for Rieger begonias. Stop by the Library to place your pre-paid order. The last day to order is April 18.
Plants will be available for pick up in early May, exact date in the Library. Support the Berlin Free Town Library and give someone special a special treat.

Berlin Fire Department Breakfast
On Sunday, April 1, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its monthly breakfast which includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast and biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard). Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice. Prices are $7 for adults, $4 for kids 5-10 and free for kids under 5.
The Ladies Auxiliary will be having an Easter Bake Sale with goodies and treats from 7 to 11 am at the Fireman’s Breakfast.
