by David Flint
For those in the Taconic Valley who remember the days when the trains of the Rutland Railroad were part of the daily scene, or for those who just have a nostalgic interest in railroading, James R. “Jim” Jones has created a special treat. The radio personality, railroad buff and media professional has just put out the sixth and last in his “Rutland Remnants” DVD series, this one entitled “North Bennington, VT to Chatham, NY – Corkscrew Rails & Tales.”
Jones describes it as a documentary in the style of a Ken Burns production. “I prefer that local people tell the story, not me,” he said. Some of the local people that appear include Art Koepp of Stephentown, Carol Lobdell VanHeusen of West Lebanon, Bruce Cobb of Chatham and Bev Bowman Chiarella of Canaan.

Bly Hollow Problem Settled In Holiday Spirit
by Kieron Kramer
Perhaps it was the holiday spirit, but, after a difficult year with plenty of meetings in which more heat was generated than light, the Berlin Board ended its regular meetings of 2011 with much more light than heat. “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” said Board Members Richard deLeon Jr. and Sheila Hewitt at the end of the meeting.

Sierra Bailey In The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade
by Kieron Kramer
The first four resolutions passed at the Rensselaer County Legislature’s regular meeting on Tuesday, December 13, recognized the achievements of student-athletes from Hoosick Falls. Two teams were honored, the Hoosick Falls Central School Girls Soccer team and the HFCS Football team, and two individuals were honored.
The first resolution of the night told the story of Sierra Bailey, a senior cheerleader at HFCS. According to the resolution, Sierra has been cheerleading since the age of five. At seventeen she tried out for a spot on the Varsity Cheer Squad over the summer at a cheerleading camp and at the age of seventeen her dream came true. Although she tried out with no expectations of making the team, when the results came back she was one of five hundred accepted to take part in the synchronized cheerleading squad during the 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 24, 2011.

Letter To The Editor – Fix The Problems
To the Editor:
First of all, I have to agree with Mr. Nash. We do have serious health, safety and ADA compliance issues in this district. That is where it ends. These problems are not from neglect. Many times referendums have been drawn up to correct the problems. They have always been voted down.
