Letter To The Editor – Make A Wish Makes A Difference
Dear editor:
About a year ago our son (Dalton Stevens) was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called MECP2 duplication syndrome. There are only two hundred known cases in the United States. It is a progressive disorder which causes a lot of respiratory infections, and it becomes life threatening after a while.

Berlin Town Board Action, Part Two – November 2011

At the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, November 10, Highway Superintendent Jim Winn said that the Department had “been playing in everything – dirt, sand and snow” over the past month. The Department has been plowing snow, has been finishing up the grading and gravelling and is starting to draw sand for winter use. Boy Scout Troop 222 To Sell Christmas Wreaths
Boy Scout Troop 222 from Petersburgh will be selling Christmas wreaths and TV raffle tickets on Sunday, November 27, at the Stewart’s in Berlin (Rt. 22) from 9 am to 2 pm. We hope the community will come out and support their local Boy Scout troop. New boys are always welcome to join the troop.
Berlin Fire Department Breakfast
On Sunday, December 4, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its fresh, hot off the griddle monthly breakfast. For your eating pleasure we include all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast, biscuits for our homemade sausage gravy, sausage and bacon, toast, home fries and eggs (scrambled, sunny side, over easy or over hard). Beverage choices include coffee, tea, (both decaf available), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.

Gallivan Buys Hoosick River Hardwoods

Just a month after the sale of W.J. Cowee, LLC, the floral products company, to a Georgia firm, it has now been announced that the other Cowee company, that had become Hoosick River Hardwoods, has been acquired by Green Renewable, Inc. Green Renewable, according to their press release, is “a company focused on producing products for the heat and energy industries derived from renewable resources for a more sustainable future.”

Berlin Town Board Action – To Stop Or Not To Stop

A petition with 121 signatures was presented to the Town Board at the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, November 10. That’s a lot of signatures for a town as small as Berlin. According to Doug Goodermote, who presented the petition in a somewhat dramatic fashion during Highway Superintendent Jim Winn’s report, all the signatories are in favor of putting a stop sign on Watson Road where it intersects with Bly Hollow Road. Goodermote had brought up the issue of the stop sign at the last four meetings and finally decided to take matters into his own hands. Berlin Planning Board Meeting Change
The Berlin Planning Board will not meet in November due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The next meeting of the Berlin Planning Board is Thursday, December 15, at 6 pm in the Town Hall.

Four candidates vied for two Town Council seats in Berlin in Tuesday’s election. The candidates for the other positions in Town government ran unopposed.
Tara Cinney Fisher and Dean Maxon were the top vote-getters in the contested race for Town Council. Fisher had 270 votes and Maxon 227. [Read more…] about The Berlin Election
