A Benefit For Alesea

A pig roast and a motorcycle run will be held at the Bridgeway Restaurant/Bar in Cherry Plain on October 1 to benefit Alesea Phillips.  Alesea is an 8 year old from Berlin with brain cancer, a germinoma tumor on her optic nerve.
Register for the motorcycle run at the  Bridgeway between 10 and 11 am. You don’t have to have a bike to participate, come for the pig roast at 2 pm.

Berlin Bazaar Seeking Vendors

The Second Annual Berlin Community Harvest Bazaar, a benefit for the Berlin Community Food Closet, will held a bazaar on Sunday, October 30, from 1 to 4 pm at the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church on North Main Street in Berlin.
The organizers of the Berlin Community Harvest Bazaar are seeking local businesses to take part in this year’s event. Vendor spaces cost $15 each and include tables. Also included in the bazaar are children’s games, a cookie walk and a Chinese auction as well as a concession area with seasonal treats.

Berlin Rabies Clinic

A Rabies Clinic will be held on Thursday, October 20, at the Berlin Highway Garage on Route 22 in Berlin. All rabies vaccines, dog-DHLPP vaccines and cat-FURCP vaccines cost $10 each; cash only! Cats will be treated from 6 to 7 pm, dogs from 7 to 8 pm. Call Doug Goodermote at 658-3308 if you have questions.

Rensselaer Land Trust October Events

October 1, Saturday – Hike Up and Down the Hollows at 9 am. This free hike will go up the central portion of the Taconic Crest Trail, ascending via Mattison Hollow past waterfalls and descending via Robinson Hollow. This is a strenuous seven mile hike with steep uphill and downhill sections. Wear boots or sturdy shoes. Bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water. Prepare for cool and windy conditions. Berlin Town Board Action – Berlin Adopts Comprehensive Plan

The Town of Berlin adopted its Comprehensive Plan at the September 8 meeting of the Town Board. And just in time, it seems. The plan, which passed unanimously (with the exception of Council Member Jim Saunders who was not present), could prove useful when the Town prepares its applications for FEMA relief from the recent Hurricane Irene and the floods of last week.

Berlin Historic Walking Tour

Berlin’s Main Street is a treasure of architectural styles and historic homes and businesses.  Join us for a historic walking tour of Berlin’s Main Street between Elm Street and Park Avenue on Saturday, September 24.  This event is sponsored by Corner Creations, on the corner of Main and Elm Streets, where we will meet between the hours of 1 and 4 pm.  Walks will begin every 20 minutes with a tour guide.  A booklet of the  buildings and history of each will be given to each person attending.   Join us on the 24th! ( In the event that it is raining, the tour will be held on Saturday, October 1.)

Berlin Area Girl Scouts Seek Members

Girl Scouts Troop #1070 (4th graders) is looking for new members to join the Troop. Meetings are held twice monthly after school (in the Berlin/Petersburgh area)

Taconic Valley Historical Society

Mrs. Kathryn Sheehan, Registrar and Rensselaer County Historian, will be the guest speaker at the September 19th meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society.  Kathy will present an evening of potpourri, interesting collections and stories that have come into the Rensselaer County Historical Society over the last few months.  Meetings are held at the United Methodist Church, South Main Street, Berlin, the third Monday of each month at 7:30 pm.  The programs are free and open to the public.

The winners of the Mountain Chapel Fishing Derby on Aug 27 were –  1st place, Caleb Hendricks from Berlin, 2nd place, Jeffery Curtis from Petersburgh, 3rd place, Sharon Strock from Grafton. Junior Division – 1st place, Jordyn Travis, 2nd place, Nate Hendricks, 3rd place, Seth Hendricks.
