At its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 12, the Rensselaer County Legislature passed a resolution asking the NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) to review the safety conditions on a section of State Route 7 between the Bennington Battlefield Motel (4328 Rt. 7) and the intersection of Routes 7 and 22 in the Town of Hoosick. Over the years this stretch of road, with its sweeping high speed curves, necessitated because the road runs along a winding trout stream, has been the scene of numerous accidents. Berlin July 4th Parade Is A Big Hit

The Berlin Fourth of July Parade, being the only one in the County, normally attracts a good-sized crowd. This year was no exception, in fact the number of spectators appeared to be a good bit greater than usual. Jane Fitzgerald has done yeoman service chairing the Parade Committee for many years. This year the Parade Committee was pleased and proud to recognize her “many jobs well done” and appoint “Aunt Jane” as Grand Marshal of the Parade.

50th Reunion Of The BCS Class Of 1961
On June 4, Bonita Maxon, Sylvia Thompson and Connie Goodermote planned a picnic which was held at the home of Bonita Maxon at the Dyken Pond. One third of our class met; some spouses attended. We had an enjoyable time meeting classmates that we had not seen since graduation 50 years ago. We held a raffle, shared much memorabilia and life experiences.

Changing Of The Guard At The Berlin Republican Caucus

The Berlin Republican Party held its Caucus for the upcoming November elections on June 9 at the Berlin Fire House. Ninety to a hundred people attended the caucus, but only the 79 Republicans who had voted in the last election as registered Republicans could cast a ballot at this caucus. Jane Fitzgerald Is Grand Marshal Of The Berlin July Fourth Parade

The Berlin 4th of July Parade Committee is pleased to announce the selection of long-time resident, Jane Fitzgerald, as the 2011 July 4th Parade Grand Marshal. Jane, more affectionately known as “Auntie Jane,” has been involved with the parade for 17 years. She is still active today as Committee Chair.

Stained Glass consists of seven young adults from across the US, and the group will be touring fourteen states throughout the Midwest and Northeast this summer.

The June 9 Berlin Town Board meeting was the first meeting for Richard deLeon Jr. who was appointed in the May meeting to fill the seat held by Richard von Schilgen, and he hit the ground running. De Leon had familiarized himself with the issues before the Board and made contributing comments during the meeting. Alesea’s Angels Benefit Breakfast
Alesea’s Angels, a community based group, is hosting an All You Can Eat Benefit Breakfast on Sunday, June 26, from 8 to 11 am at the Berlin Fire House. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, toast, juice and coffee. The cost for adults is $8, $5 for children 12 and under and $25 for families (two adults and children under 12).
