At the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, February 11, there was a commotion surrounding the basic concept of how to run Town government. When the Board voted 4-1 to reject the only bid on a new tandem axle truck requested by Highway Superintendent Jim Winn, rancorous cries from those in attendance rang out. Basically, the issue is whether one fears for the Town’s financial future and therefore wants to spend little or nothing for services and infrastructure maintenance at this time or whether one feels the Town’s future will be bright and the quality of life maintained if proper and efficient investment in the Town is made now. Berlin Library Plant Sale
Want to bring a little bit of Spring into your home? Buy an oxalis (shamrock) plant from the Berlin Library. Fill out a form at the Library from February 17 to 26. The plants have white flowers, but you can chose your leaf color of red or green. A 4 inch pot costs $5, and a 6 inch pot costs $9. Plants will be ready for pick-up on March 5. Add a dash of color to your home and support your local Library and its programs.
Handford Named Russell Sage Kellas Scholar
Jaime Handford from Berlin, a Health Sciences major at Russell Sage College, has been named a Kellas Scholar for the fall 2010 semester. Kellas Scholars have been on the Dean’s List for three consecutive semesters. Dean’s List students have achieved a semester grade point average of at least 3.4 while carrying a course load of at least 12 credits.

Berlin – Almira Maynard Stark, 77, a Bensalem, PA, resident passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Born in Hancock, MA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Pearl Haywood Maynard. She was a United States Air Force veteran who worked hard for her family.

Freeing Charles At The Poestenkill Historical Society
