Girl Scout Service Unit 154 is having a bake sale at Stewart’s in Berlin from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 14.
If you want your car washed and some baked goods at the same time, there will also be a combination car wash and bake sale at Eagle Energy on Route 22 on Saturday, August 14, from 10 am to 2 pm.

A Brief History Of Berlin’s Gladioli Beds

Eighty-two years after the death of Berlin native Arthur Cowee his gladioli legacy is still something that can capture the imagination! For the past few years the Beautification of Berlin Committee has been planting gladioli bulbs along Route 22 to replicate, in a small way, the renowned display of these fields of flowers which were grown in three locations in town – Meadowvale Farm, just north of Seagroatt’s on Route 22, boasted more than 200 acres while a second field was planted at the current site of Berlin Elementary School. Another 30 acres, known as Meadowvale Farm II, were located in Southeast Hollow.

Letter To The Editor – Show Your Support For The Gladioli
To the Editor:
Three years and 10,000 gladioli bulb plantings later, the 3-year objectives of the Beautification of Berlin Committee have been met and exceeded – the planting of 10 major and 3 secondary beds of strikingly colored gladioli along Route 22 in Berlin with the intent of replicating in a small way the beautiful display of many acres of gladioli bulbs for which Berlin was renowned nationally in the late 1800s and early 1900s and to celebrate and preserve the rich history of our Town.

The Friends of the Berlin Library have begun planning for their August fund raiser, the Annual Book and Bake on Saturday, August 21, from 9 am to 1 pm. This year they are including a boutique which features quality items for sale – collectibles, china, antiques, etc. They are now accepting books (no encyclopedias or musty books) and items for the boutique (no electronics please) at the Library. Bentley Exhibit Of National Parks At Petersburgh Library
The Petersburgh Library invites everyone to experience the geological wonders of some of our western National Parks. The display of Randall “Randi” Bentley’s oil paintings hanging in the Library gives one the feeling of actually being in the Parks. The paintings will be at the Library for the next three months. Be sure to find her folder with brief explanations on the formations of these geological wonders. Also, beware of the Yosemite bears when in the Library!
