Berlin ZBA Discusses Cherry Plain Cell Tower Proposal

On January 21 at the Berlin Town Hall, an engineer, Chris Ciolfi from Mariner Tower and Berlin Zoning Board of Appeals members discussed Mariner Tower’s application to construct a 150 foot cellular telephone tower in Cherry Plain. Boy Scout Troop #222 Goes Rock Climbing

Local Boy Scout Troop #222 spent hours rock climbing, exploring the caves and riding the zip line at the Albany Indoor Rock Gym last week. Letter To The Editor – The Need For Office Space Still Exists

To the editor:
Apparently the Town of Berlin is in dire need of adequate office space. I understand that inclusive of Ann Maxon’s basement, all important Town records are now stored within 580 sq. feet of storage area. In many instances our vital records are now vulnerable to water damage, mold, etc. Gosh, not what I think a 21st Century community should have to deal with. Probably an “advisory committee” should be established to initiate a search for adequate storage facilities for these Town records.

Berlin Highway Workers Unionize

Berlin Highway Department workers will be represented by the United Public Service Employees Union in future negotiations with the Town. A vote was cast by the Town Board at the regular Town Board meeting on Thursday night, January 14, recognizing the UPSEU as the representative of Berlin employees. The vote was 4-0 in favor of recognizing the union with Town Supervisor Robert Jaeger abstaining from the vote and recusing himself from the discussion because he is already a member of a union, CSEA, as an employee of the Berlin School District.

The Berlin Limner

Matthew McKeeby, “The Berlin Limner,” will present “The Life of a Limner: Folk Art Painting, Portraits and Decorations in Upstate New York,” to the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday, February 1. Berlin Comprehensive Plan Workshop

Legislature Commends Berlin Young Farmer Award Winners

Two resolutions were passed at the Rensselaer County Legislative meeting on Tuesday night, January 12, relating to agriculture in Berlin and Petersburgh. The first commended Carl and Cynthia Greene for receiving the 2009 Young Farmer Achievement Award. The second carried forward from previous years the budget line for the Farmland Protection grants awarded by NY State for the Evergreen and Maple Lane Farms in Petersburgh and the Hooskip Farm, also in Petersburgh.
