Greenes Receive Young Farmer Achievement Award

Carl and Cindy Greene of Center Berlin were awarded the 2009 Young Farmer Achievement Award by New York Farm Bureau.  This award recognizes young farmers for their agricultural pursuits and leadership within the community.  Carl is a partner with his father and brother at Mapledale Farm. The Satchel Is Passed

Marie Snyder who was President of the Berlin Seniors for many years passed away this month. Despite being ill, she bravely planned her last year of senior trips from her hospital bed and then with tremendous fortitude led all but one. After she completed her last trip and arranged for new elections to be held at the Christmas party, she finally rested.

Voters Reject Berlin Lumber Purchase By Wide Margin

In yet another indication that voters in this economic climate are wary of anything that smacks of new taxes, the proposal for the Town of Berlin to purchase the vacant property of the Berlin Lumber Company suffered a crushing defeat in Monday’s Special Election. The vote count was 131 Yes to 210 No in a rather light turn out.
