Board of Education Highlights

June 30, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Chris Tergliafera
All internal and external cameras have been installed at the Middle/High School, with the cameras for the Elementary School expected to be installed over the summer. Access control door installation is also expected be completed over the summer.

Superintendent Joseph Dhara has been in discussions with Rensselaer County about a School Resource Officer (SRO), and will update the Board as more information becomes available.

Berlin CSD will be participating in the Stop Arm Program. This is a free program through Rensselaer County that will install cameras inside and outside of buses. If someone passes the bus when the stop sign is out it will take a picture of the vehicle and send it to the Sheriff’s office.

The District is getting a Raptor system for visitor check-in. With the system, visitors to the building will need to provide identification that will be scanned to produce a name tag. The system should be available shortly.

Berlin 4th of July Parade and Grand Marshal

June 23, 2022 By Eastwick Press

On Monday, July 4, the Town of Berlin will have its annual 4th of July parade, and this year’s theme is iconic American brands. From Amazon to Zippo, American brands, slogans and mascots have created both our and the world’s image of us. We certainly are looking forward to see how America will be celebrated. Volunteers and donations are always needed and appreciated for both advance responsibilities and on parade day. If you’d like to be part or need additional information, please contact the Town of Berlin office at janfirszt11@gmail.com.

Grand Marshal
The Grand Marshal for the 2022 July 4th parade is Anne Maxon.

Since 1982 Anne has been Berlin Town Clerk and six years prior, she was Deputy Clerk. She is lifelong resident of Berlin, with the exception of one long year in Oklahoma.

After graduating, she asked Stanton Goodermote for a job at the Taconic Bank, where she worked for over 3 decades, serving as manager for years.

Anne is much more interested in talking about others than herself. She beams when talking about her grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ryan, Jacob, Colin and Ben.

The other time she shines is talking about the people of Berlin: “I love helping everyone as much as I can” and she does make Berlin a better place. Thank you, Anne Maxon, and congratulations.

The parade has an 11 am step off time at Berlin Elementary School.

The county bridge carrying County Route 36 (Park Avenue) over the Little Hoosic River in the Town of Berlin will be closed effective today, May 12, the Rensselaer County Highway Department announced.

The closure follows an inspection by the New York State Department of Transportation, which determined structural and safety issues necessitate closure.

The Rensselaer County Highway Department has monitored the condition of the CR36 bridge in recent years. County Highway has lowered the weight limit on the bridge in an effort to keep the bridge safely in operation.

Detours will be posted, and the detours for traffic are expected to be short. The county is now reviewing plans to deal with the bridge closure, said county officials.
