1980 Graduate Schindler Is Berlin Graduation Speaker

Berlin Central School’s Commencement speaker at Graduation Exercises on Friday was one of their own, and a very successful role model. 1980 graduate Kurt Schindler was president of his class and an avid participant in soccer, basketball, baseball and musical drama. He went on to become a Certified Financial Planner and Instructor of Financial Education at the Banco Popular in Puerto Rico. Arlie Greene Chosen Grand Marshal Of Berlin 2015 July 4th Parade

Arlie Greene, 95, has lived in Berlin his entire life. This Saturday, he will be honored as grand marshal in the Berlin July 4th Parade. Arlie will enjoy the parade from his seat in a 1950 Willys Jeepster Convertible, owned and driven by local resident, John Kellar. The annual parade is set for July 4th at 11 am.

Berlin School Board Contemplates Low Bids For Closed Elementary Schools

Berlin Receives State Audit Seeking Better Oversight Of Water District

The State Comptroller’s audit of the Berlin Water District #2 was released this week. It is critical of the District’s financial practices. At the Berlin Town Board meeting on June 11, Supervisor Robert Jaeger commented on it. He said their biggest objection was all of the financial transactions are handled by one person, namely Town Clerk Anne Maxon. The auditors would like to see what they call “segregation of duties,” in which more than one person is involved at some stage of the billing, collection, deposit and reconciliation process. NYSATA Honors Berlin Art Teachers

On June 16, Berlin Middle School/High School teachers Samantha Noles and Christina Wallace were honored as the New York State Art Teachers Association’s (NYSATA) Region 6 Art Educators of the Year. Town of Berlin Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons will be 9:15 to 10 am, Monday through Friday from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 31 at Grafton Lakes State Park.  The town will be providing a bus that will leave the Berlin Firehouse parking lot promptly at 8:55 am and will return approximately 10:30 am.  The space is limited to the first 60 children ages 5-12. Registration forms will be available at the following locations: Berlin Post Office, Berlin Town Library and the Town Hall.  Registration forms should be mailed by July 11 to Annette Bell, PO Box 191, Berlin, NY 12022.
