Hilda T. Willbrant

Petersburgh/Berlin – Hilda T. (Thomas) Willbrant, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls.

Born in Petersburgh, NY, Hilda was the daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Church) Thomas.   She grew up in Cherry Plain and was a 1940 graduate of Berlin High School.  [Read more…] about Hilda T. Willbrant

Youth 2 Youth Berlin Visits the County Legislature

On Wednesday, May 6, Youth 2 Youth Berlin did a presentation to the Rensselaer County Legislature and Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino, during the legislative open forum. They thanked the legislature for sponsoring a youth’s attendance at the Youth 2 Youth Eastern States Conference in 2014, and delivered a presentation on their efforts to reduce the use of alcohol and drugs by youth in the four communities of the Berlin Central School District. TVSC U19 Team Has Strong Outing In Weekend Tournament

The Taconic Valley Soccer Club has started its Spring program. This past month K-6th grade youngsters have been coming together at Berlin Elementary school twice a week to practice soccer in an instructional setting.  The club also has two older teams in the CDSYL Spring travel league that play and practice at BES.

Berlin Fire Department Breakfast

On Sunday, June 7, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its monthly breakfast.

All proceeds, after expenses, go to fund the Berlin Fire Departments Frank Jones Memorial Scholarship awarded to a Berlin Senior at the graduation ceremony.  Scholarship applications are available at the High School Guidance Office. Join us as we support the Class of 2015.

Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, french toast, biscuits with homemade sausage gravy, bacon and sausage, home fries, toast and eggs (sunny side, over easy or over hard, scrambled). Beverage choice of coffee or tea (both available as decaf), hot chocolate, milk, and orange juice.

Prices are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, children under 5 is no charge. Takeouts are available at 658-2890.

Berlin Town Board Action – Historical Center Gets New Sign

Supervisor Jaeger said Dr. Young, the Berlin School District Superintendent, had expressed interest on behalf of the Berlin School District in renting the old town garage for a maintenance shop for the school buses. Supervisor Jaeger offered it for $6,000 for the year, the School to pay heat and electricity. Berlin is now waiting for the School District’s reply to their offer.

Petersburgh Boy Scout Troop 222 Attends The Mahikan District Spring Camporee In Columbia County

Patsy Ruth Johnson

Berlin – Patsy Ruth Johnson, 65, passed away at her home on Friday, May 15, 2015.

Born in Fayetteville, NC, she was raised and educated there and moved to Berlin following her marriage to Leonard C. Johnson in 1966.

She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed watching hummingbirds, gardening and growing flowers.  She was a past member of the Berlin Fire Department Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard; her daughter, Beverly (Ray) Weatherwax; her grandchildren, Britney and Blair Weatherwax; two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, at two o’clock in the First Baptist Church, Berlin, NY. The family will receive visitors at the church for two hours prior to the service, from noon to 2 pm. Pastor Matthew Olson of the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church will officiate.  A private interment will be held in the Berlin Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 in memory of Patsy Ruth Johnson.

Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home of Petersburgh is assisting the Johnson family.
