Berlin Fire Dept. Breakfast

On Sunday, November 5, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its monthly breakfast. Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast, biscuits with homemade sausage gravy, bacon and sausage, home fries, toast and eggs (sunny side up, over easy or over hard, scrambled). Beverage choice is coffee or tea (both available as decaf), hot chocolate, milk and orange juice.

The price is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under 5. Take-outs are available by calling 658-2890.

Berlin Town Board Action – Bear Burgers

Before the Berlin Town Board regular meeting began on Thursday, October 9, and after it ended, Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger showed his smart phone pictures of the car accident in which he hit a black bear on Route 22 near South East Hollow Road. The collision occurred on Monday while Jaeger was driving to the Town Hall, he said. According to Jaeger, the bear was a female weighing about 200 pounds. Berlin Rescue Squad Café

On Friday, October 24, the Berlin Rescue Squad will be holding its monthly, delicious Fish Fry Dinner. For $10 you can come enjoy a hearty helping of fried cod on a roll, french fries, coleslaw, a brownie and soda or water. Eat in or take out; it’s up to you.

We have also decided to serve mini-hot dogs as well. These can be purchased in a meal ($10 for 10 dogs with fries, a brownie and beverage), ($5 for 4 dogs with fries, a brownie and beverage) or purchased à la carte.

Telephoned orders are welcome. The Firehouse number is 658-2890. The dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Berlin Fire Department. Call Stan at 269-8646 with any questions.

Harold Jewett

Berlin – Harold “Ken” Jewett, 76, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY, on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Born in Cohoes, NY, and raised in Berlin, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy Jewett and big brother to Ronald and the late Joan Jones and Beverly Hoffman.

BFD Annual Lobster Bake

Come join us for the Annual Lobster Bake on October 18 at the Berlin Firehouse on Community Avenue sponsored by the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.

Take-outs are from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. The sit down meal will be served from  6 to 8 pm.

The price is $21 for a single lobster dinner, $30 for a double lobster dinner and $39 triple lobster dinner.

Sullivan-Jones VFW Breakfast

The Sullivan-Jones VFW in Poestenkill will be having its monthly buffet breakfast Sunday, October 14, from 8 to 11 am. Breakfast includes eggs, home fries, sausage, bacon, pancakes, French toast sticks, fruit, coffee, tea and more. The cost for adults is $8, $4 for children 6 to 12 years old and free for children 5 years and under. This month we will also be starting omelets which includes ham, peppers, onions and cheese (American, cheddar, or mozzarella) for an additional $2.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW will be holding a bake sale during breakfast and will also be taking orders for Thanksgiving pies.

Financial Planning At The Berlin Library

A member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Northeastern New York will be presenting a discussion on financial planning at 11 am, followed by free mini-financial planning consultations at the Berlin Library on Saturday, October 4. She will be available for private financial planning sessions from 11:30 am to 2 pm, limited to 20 minute sessions and by appointment. This event will be held in recognition of FPA Financial Planning week to help Americans discover the value of financial planning.

Community members can receive assistance with retirement planning, paying for college, budgeting, debt management, estate planning, income taxes, mortgage loans, insurance and other topics.

The FPA is dedicated to serving our community by offering objective financial planning services to individuals and families.
