State to Study Route 7 Traffic

March 16, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Long Awaited Review May Include Smart Lights in Brunswick

by Doug La Rocque
For many years, and in particular during public hearings about three new major developments now under construction along Hoosick Road (NYS Route 7), members of the public have been very vocal in their complaints about traffic along that road including the many stop and goes, volume, lengthy backups and the almost daily accidents. When the addition of another signal light at the intersection with Lord Avenue was proposed, several started calling for a NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) traffic study. Research at that time indicated the last DOT study was about 20 years ago, and so much has changed since then. [Read more…] about State to Study Route 7 Traffic

March 9, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque

The application to increase the height of the Verizon Wireless cell tower under construction on land at the corner of Creek Road and Menemsha Lane by 20 feet was on the agenda for the Brunswick Planning Board meeting on Thursday, March 3, although no representatives were in attendance. It was disclosed at the meeting the application for the increase was actually made by the contractor, not the applicant. As to the contractor’s status to make such an application, that appears to be up in the air at this point and is being researched by the [Read more…] about More Research Needed On Verizon Tower Height Application

by Doug La Rocque

That is how Brunswick Town Supervisor and co-owner of Herrington Farms in Brunswick describes the recent decision by the NY Farm Laborers Wage Board to reduce the overtime threshold for farm laborers from 60 to 40 hours per week. The decision has yet to gain the approval of NYS Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. Verizon Cellphone Tower Announcement Turns Heads

by Doug La Rocque

It wasn’t until the very end of the Brunswick Planning Board meeting on Thursday, February 17, that the item drawing the most interest from Board members came forth. Building Inspector Chuck Golden announced he had received an application from Verizon Wireless to extend the cell tower under construction on land at the corner of Creek Road and Menemsha Lane. It was the original tower application that was before the Planning Board for nearly a year, with the visual impact being the largest sticking point. Verizon originally requested a 105-foot high tower that met with [Read more…] about Brunswick Planning Board Meeting

Brunswick Town Council Looks to Extend Multi-Family Housing Moratorium

February 16, 2022 By Eastwick Press

May Not Need Six More Months

by Doug La Rocque

It was a year ago when many Town residents and the Brunswick Planning Board expressed their concern to the Town Council about the number of two-family dwellings and apartment buildings proposed for construction. Some of these proposed sites were in areas where Town code allowed for such development, but perhaps did not conform with the tenure of the neighborhood. In response, the Town Council enacted a six-month moratorium on such development while they looked into amending the Codes. The first six months passed and last August it was extended for another six months. At the Council’s Thursday, February 10 meeting, a local law to extend the moratorium another six months was introduced, however Town Supervisor Phil Herrington stated those working on the revisions were nearly complete and did not anticipate needing the full extension. Once finished, the code changes must go to a public hearing before the full Board can consider adopting the revisions. Tamarac Boys Basketball #1 in the State

January 20, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque

A mere three weeks ago, those in the Wasaren League knew the Tamarac Boys Varsity Basketball team was good; now the entire State knows it. In a tournament in Rome, NY, the Bengals defeated what was then the top team in the whole State, Utica Academy of Science. Since then, they have also knocked off one of the perennial basketball powers in the Capital Region, the Class AA Shaker Bison. That and their continued dominance in the league has made people take notice, so much so that in the weekly ratings of all teams in the State (including parochial and New York City schools) the Bengals were labeled [Read more…] about Tamarac Boys Basketball #1 in the State

No Takers at Solar Construction Public Hearing in Brunswick

January 20, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque

The Thursday, January 13 Brunswick Town Council meeting opened with a public hearing on a request from CVE North America for a required zoning change to permit the construction of a commercial solar complex at the end of Belair Lane. CVE is asking that two parcels of land involved in the overall plat be changed to include an agricultural overlay, which would then permit a solar installation. No one spoke for or against the idea. The Council must now consider whether to permit the zoning change before the Brunswick Planning Board can move ahead with the site plan consideration.
