Grafton Town Supervisor Frank Higgins appointed Maureen Seel as the Bookkeeper for the Town of Grafton, and the Board approved the appointment. Seel is the Bookkeeper for Berlin, Pittstown and Stephentown. Higgins said he is very impressed with her command of the accounting software and her knowledge of Town finance.

Grafton Library Plant And Book Sale
The Grafton Community Library, located at 2455 NY Route 2, will be the site of a multi-sale event on Saturday, May 18. Doors open at 8 am for the Plant and Book Sale which will run until 1 pm. Stop by the Library to pick up some fresh reading material as well as plants to enhance your garden. You never know what you will find.
Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Lillis Bunce Memorial Award and the Ethel Simmons Award for Grafton high school seniors. The book sale will be in the basement. Grafton VFD And Ladies Auxiliary Breakfast
For Memorial Day weekend the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, May 25, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85).
Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu. The cost is $9 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids five and under.

Birding For Beginners At Dyken Pond
On Saturday, May 25, a program, Birding for Beginners, will take place at the Dyken Pond Educational Center, 475 Dyken Pond Road in Cropseyville. Participants will start with the basics by learning binocular basics and easy techniques to identify birds by field marks and by bird song. We will identify at least ten new birds! The Rev. William H. O’Dell, Jr.
Grafton – The Rev. William “Billy” H. O’Dell, Jr., 87, of Grafton, NY, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday morning, May 15, 2013, following a lengthy illness. Born and raised in Grafton, he was the son of the late William H. and Eudella Weeden O’Dell. Billy attended the Grafton one room schoolhouse and Berlin High School. Following school, he worked with his father in the family logging and sawmill business.

Limners Program At The Grafton Historical Society
The Grafton Historical Society’s May meeting will be held at the Grafton Town Hall on May 15 at 7 pm. This month’s program will have Matthew McKeeby presenting “American folk artists known as limners.” The program is free and the public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
A limner is the work of untrained, generally anonymous artists active in the English American colonies. The limner tradition extended well into the 19th century. Since the 1990s Matthew McKeeby has been crafting the very best quality oil-on-canvas reproductions of the works of great American folk artists, specializing in the world of Edward Hicks and the decorative painting style of Rufus Porter.

Brownell and Goodermote Say More Convenient Bank Service Needed in Eastern Rensselaer County

Rensselaer County Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote say residents of eastern Rensselaer County need more convenient banking options following the closure of a Bank of America branch late last year.
The closure by Bank of America of the Berlin branch means there is no bank service in the Taconic Valley – State Route 22 corridor between the Town of Hoosick and the Town of New Lebanon in Columbia County. A number of residents have been forced to travel across the state border into Massachusetts for banking service.

Volunteers Needed To Make A Bocce Court In Grafton
The Everett Wagar Senior Center, 2 Roxborough Road, Grafton is looking for a few volunteers to help build a bocce court. Phase one, on Saturday May 11, will be to level the ground and build the framework. The Savvy Caregiver
The Savvy Caregiver Program, from the Alzheimer’s Association, is a free, six session training series that helps family caregivers better understand the changes their loved ones are experiencing and how to best provide individualized care along the continued decline associated with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The course will be held on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm on June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 3 at the Brunswick Community Library, 4118 State Highway 2, Troy.
