Deputy Supervisor Cathy Goyer again presided over the Grafton Town Board meeting on July 9. About half an hour into the meeting she read a letter of resignation from Town Bookkeeper Victoria Nellis which she said she had “just received today.” However, the letter was dated June 30, and when questioned by members of the audience and Town Board members, she said that her daughter Carrie Minkler had been appointed to the position over a week earlier.

County Takes Over WCW Property In Hoosick Falls

At the monthly meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature on Tuesday, July 10, a resolution was adopted unanimously authorizing acceptance by the County of a deed in lieu of in rem tax foreclosure from Four J’s One Mechanic Street, LLC. This LLC is the current owner of the WCW property at One Mechanic Street in Hoosick Falls, previously owned by JW Realty. Five years after purchasing the two parcels on Mechanic Street in 2006, and owing a tax obligation for those years to the Village, WCW moved its mattress manufacturing business to Manchester, Vermont, in 2011.

Grafton Presents The Arts And Crafts Of The Shakers
The Grafton Community Library is sponsoring a free program in conjunction with the Grafton Historical Society’s regular meeting at the Everett Wagar Senior Center on Wednesday, July 18, at 7 pm. The public is invited to attend. The guest speaker is Todd Burdick, the Director of Interpretation and Public Programs at Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, MA. He will present a lecture, demonstration and exhibit of the arts and crafts of the Shakers, including the iconic oval box. The values of simplicity in design and quality craftsmanship embraced by the Shakers will be explored.

Bats For Kids At Dyken Pond
The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is offering a Junior Naturalist Series this summer for kids of all ages through August 28. Each Tuesday afternoon program will offer a different theme and will run from 1 to 3 pm. Each program offers nature activities and usually a small craft to take home. On Monday, June 25, the Dickinson Hill Fire Tower at Grafton Lakes State Park was opened to the public with a celebration and a ribbon cutting. Rose Harvey, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, was at the Fire Tower ceremony to meet and celebrate with all those who have stepped forward to support the restoration of the tower and help ensure its future. Kristen Navarette Graduates From Medical School
Kristen Alexandra Navarette, daughter of Robert and Kellie Kaschak of Grafton, graduated from medical school at Albany Medical College in Albany on Thursday, May 24, 2012.
Kristen attended Tamarac High School in Brunswick, graduating in 2002 with a Regents Diploma with Honors. She was accepted into the Siena College/ Albany Medical College Program in Science, Humanities and Medicine directly out of high school.

On Thursday, May 24, 2012, at 10:45 am Viktor Chakas Kannan entered the world weighing in at 7 lbs. 9 oz. and measuring 19 ½ inches long. He is the son of Rebecca and Naresh Kannan of Clifton Park, NY, and little brother of Rani and Gaia Kannan. He is the grandson of Robert and Kellie Kaschak of Grafton and the great-grandson of Raymond (Bunky) and Dianne Etman of Grafton and Rose Kaschak of Cropseyville.

Brunswick Grange Agricultural Tailgate Sale
On Sunday, July 8, Brunswick Grange will hold its Agricultural Tailgate Sale at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, Route 67 and 40, Schaghticoke, from 8 am to 12:30 pm. More than 50 vendors will have various varieties of chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, vegetables, plants, flowers and other agricultural items. Absolutely no dogs, cats, puppys or kittens will be allowed for sale. A donation of $15 per vendor will be charged. The sale will be held rain or shine. Refreshments will also be available.
